Have Dinner in E
with the BEST RIDERS on EARTH I
Fogarty took second position in what
was his final race for Ducati. "The backmarkers decided the outcome of this
race," he said. "A few laps after Anthony had escaped, I got back into his slipstream and almost managed to get
around the outside of him. I didn't even
know that this was the fmal dash to the
finish. I hadn't been able to see my pitboard in the struggle.
Unfortunately, only two out of the
three changes we made on the bike after
the first race seemed to work out well.
The bike was still revving too much
corning out of the comers. If we'd kept
the gearing from the first heat, things
might have looked different. But I also
have to admit that I made a stupid mistake twice when I was leading, letting
the bike jump out of the gear."
Corser got home third. "I got a better
drive off the corners this time," he said.
"But pretty soon in the race I decided to
wait until the final laps. But then the
backrnarkers got in our way."
The top three riders finished within a
quarter of a second of each other.
Hale came home sixth, behind Slight
and Crafar. "The twb Ducatis were way
too fast and 1 couldn't get past them,"
Slight said. "Otherwise, I was certain to
get Gobert."
"In the first hea t the motor kept
jumping into neutral," Hale said. "For
the second heat, they put a different
motor in. Unfortunately, from the start
on I got held up and got stuck in sixth
place. The gap was too big to make it up,
so I just kept riding and didn't push too
much, just trying to learn the bike and
the track more. At some moments, it was
pretty hard not to forget tha t was actually the reason that I was out there."
