• Pirovano and Hale for sixth -' with Crafar in between. In the final laps, Slight settled for a nine-second win, leading an equally solitary Corser, and then Chili, who had finally succeeded in shaking off Gobert. "1 still had the rear wheel spinning too much and the front was pushing a bit," Slight said. "Fortunately, though, the temperature was about the same as during first qualifying on Friday, which allowed us to choose the ideal tire." Second-placed Corser was having problems of his own: "The gearbox kept jumping out of second into first," said Corser. "Which was especially a problem in the hairpin, because there it's very important to get away well. So I lost some time there every lap." Gobert came home fourth. ''I'm pretty pleased with this race," he said. "It was definitely better than the first one, among other things because of a better start. The changing of the setup after the first heat also helped." Crafar finished fifth, in front of Pirovano and Hale. Crafar suffered from a poor start, but from then on everything went better. "Starting has been a problem for the Hondas all year. Aaron (Slight) has an updated clutch, which minimizes the problem a little bit. I only hope to get the same eqnipment for Phillip Island. The main problem during the rest of-the race was the temperature. It got up to 97 degrees (206F); the hot air even came through my leathers and burned my legs." Hale had gone out again to get some more practice with the men he'll race against full-time in 1996. His lap times were quicker in the second race as he started to come to grips with the Ducati V-twin after a season on an RC4S in the AMA Championship. Goddard gained some more points by finishing 13th. "Nothing much to say, really:' he said. "1 just went round and I got quicker every lap, but everyone else was still faster than me." (~ F TSUBAK.
