by Larson, Matthew Crandell, Travis Henrichs and Randy Dibartolo. Eric Brouhard proved that last week's Open Pro~c1ass victory was not a flash in the pan for the Reynolds Printing/Faribault Harley~Davidson-sponsoredPro-Am con~ tender. Once again, Brouhard lined up against District 23's finest. After suffering a bad start, he charged through the pack and eventually reeled in race leader Randy Triplett. With only two laps remaining, Brouhard applied just enough pressure on Triplett to trigger a slip from the veteran expert in tum two. Brouhard pounced at the opportunity, and grabbed the lead on the back straight. He then wen.t on to score his second consecutive win. Triplett finished a close second ahead of Torry Kohner, Norb Gregory, Verdeen Langland and the rest of the ll-rider field. Gibson gasses Dealer Series Motocross finale By Scott Hoffman ~ 0\ ""'" 00' ""'" l-< Q) 'B u o 40 ADELANTO, CA, SEPT. 11 In a heated battle with a host of riders, Mike Gibson took home the victory in the 125cc Junior class during the final round of CMC's Yamaha Dealer Series at Sunrise Valley Raceway. In moto one, Cory Gibbons jumped into the early lead while Bryan Jaramillo and Mike Gibson trailed. Gibbons stole the show early on and established that he was truly the man to beat. Jararnillo fell to the pressure on the second lap and slipped back to fifth while Gibson inherited the second spot. As the laps wore on, Jaramillo was able to recapture his composure and work back to third by the end. Up front, Gibbons cruised in for the first-moto victory followed by Gibson. In moto two, Gibbons was out fro.nt when the field completed the first lap. Chris Thomp- son and Jararnillo held the second and third spots early on but were soon hounded by the likes of Gibson, who worked fast to drop both riders back to third and fourth. Thompson went on to finish third while Jararnillo ran into troubles and limped across the line back in the pack. Up front, the battle for the lead started to heat up. Gibson started to reel in Gibbons and apply pressure. Gibbons fought long and hard but eventually fell to Gibson's relentless quest for the lead. Gibson went on to take the overall with his second-moto win. Despite a hardfought battle, Gibbons had to settle for second. In other face action, Frankie Castro was the big winner in the 250cc Beginner class. Castro pounded the competition by winning both motos back to back. Castro's closest competition was Mark Eckmann and George Medeiros Jr. Castro wasted little time in botRmotos by quickly jumping into the lead and never looking back. Results P{WS1'K: 1. Iverson aces Cambridge ST By TIm McBrlda CA,\lBRJDGE, MN. SEPT. 9 Keegan Iverson served notice that his leap from last year's BOcc competition into the 250cc B dass this year was serious business as the 14-year-old speedster recorded his first big win of the season at the Cambridge Speedway. Jim Jarauszewski jumped into the lead at the start of the 250cc B-c1ass main event, but it wasn't long before the upstart middleweight contender made the pass from ]arauszewski on the front straight of ·the second lap. Just as he did during the preliminary heat race, Iverson opened up a comfortable margin on his way to the black and white. Jarauszewski fended off the advances of third-placed Bob Rolstad to earn the runner-up honors. Both the 60cc Mini and Mini Jr. dasses saw season-long win streaks finally come to an end at the DTRA's final event of the season. In the 60cc final, perennial froot-runner Anthony Gardner saw his chances of a clean sweep vanish on the second lap when he crashed in turn two while leading the race. A fortunate Shawn Burr inherited the lead and raced to.the checkers just ahead of second-place finisher Jacob Mataya. Gardner was a bit shaken during the get-off, but the hearty speedster remounted and finished the race. The Mini Jr. (4-6-year-old) class was less dramatic; except for the proud parents of Jesse Alto. Chris Larson has dominated the field throughout the season, but Alto saved his own best for last by winning both the heat race and the main event. Alto was chased dosely to the checkers OPEN PRO: I. Simonsen smokes Roseburg Short Track By Clay Light ROSEBORG, OR, SEPT. 16 Professional riders from California, Oregon and Washington invaded Diamond Raceway for a piece of the $3500 up for grabs at the Northwest Race ·of Champions 10th-rnile clirt track, but it was Castle Rock, Washington's J.P. Simonsen who went home the bjg winner. Simonsen, riding a Honda, sat the pole position for the 12-rider, 25-lap main event. After three restarts, things finally got settled down and Simonsen jammed his way into the lead followed by Donald Paul and Jeff Harsha. Paul, best known for his 883cc National finishes, couldn't hold back Harsha, who passed Paul and set out after Simonsen. Harsha wouldn't catch up to Simonsen on this particular night and was left to fend off Price, who shook off Paul, Ryan Anderson and Ingle, who came from near last to grab sixth at the finish. Simonsen, the National number-37 plate holder, earned $1200 from the purse - $700 for a win in the Expert main event, plus an additional $500 for his win in the $1000 Dash for Cash substantially more than what he earned one week earlier for his fifth-place finish at the Castle Rock IT National. Harsha, the second-place finisher, netted $500. The event drew weU over 100 entrants for the ProfessionaJ and Amateur programs and was most likely Oregon's most extravagant dirt track since the demise of the Sidewinders IT program in 1987. The day's amateur winners included Brad Strong in the 60cc class, Bo Ingle in the 80cc division, Chris Sheets in the 125cc ranks and Open winner Bob Ingle. Results PRO-AM EX: t. J.P. Clark tops Ignacio SX By Mike Arnold IGNAOO, CO, SEPT. 3-4 Ryan Clark was the'main man at the second annual Ignacio supercross, run in conjunction with the Ironhorse Harley Davidson Rally at Sky Ute Downs, which was met with open arms by the estimated crowd of 25,000 Harley Davidson groupies. Mota one saw Kawasaki-mounted lsaiah Johnson take the holeshot with Clark in tow. Johnson powered his Team Green-sponsored KX250 to a small lead over the SuzuKi of Clark. Chris Dennison was running hard in the third spot, desperately trying to close the gap between himself and the leaders. At the front, the action was a little on the slow side as Johnson and Clark were pulling away from the Seld. Back in fourth, Jules Farmer took a sample of the Ignacio soil in the whoop section and surrendered a position in the process. This allowed Kyle Abney, the only 125cc-mounted rider in the field, to gain a position on his competition. With four laps left, the four front positions were set to go to the wire, but Caleb Leaf stepped up the pace and grabbed the fifth position from Farmer. At the checkers, it was Johnson· over Clark and Dennison. ¥ moto two left the start, Clark put his factory-supported RM250 into the number-one spot and set a pace matched only by Johnson. Farmer stepped into the third spot and was looking for redemption after his less-than-stellar first moto. Hot on his heels again was Leath. On the third lap, Leath made the pass for the third spot, and set a pace that put him. in a zone away from the pack. Moto two took its toll on Dennison and Abney by way of crashes. On the second lap, Dennison went down and allowed Abney and Gary Salter to get around. On the seventh lap, with Salter leading Abney, Salter fell in a comer, and Abney, with nowhere to go hit him and fell. When the checkered flag flew, Clark had outfoxed Johnson for the moto and overall win. Johnson was second overall with Leath taking the third position. Results s....,. 50 5TK 1. Mark Graddy (LEM): 2.
