Advertising rates and circulation information will be sent upon Coombs kudos I just finished the Motocross des Nations article by Davey Coombs (Issue #38, September 27). That's a great piece of reporting - the quotes from the riders were numerous and the excitement of the event really flowed through the piece_ I also appreciated the exqa length that was given to this article, since the story was too good to condense. Good work, Davey. I also enjoyed Scott Rousseau's Eldora HaII Mile article, and I'm looking forward to reading his interview with the AMA dirt track rep tonight. We owe a hearty congratulations to all the members of the U.S. Motocross des Nations team, their mechanics, support personnel and our team manager. Their performance was great. If the scoring counted all six motos, we would be the clear winners. Steve Tippett Columbus, OH Not so crusty I would like to take the time to thank the racers and promoters for the Sacramento Cal-Expo Mile. I have been to many Class C flat track races over the years, from the time I was a very young boy. But the races at the Cal-Expo Fairgrounds on Saturday night were great. From the heat races to the main events. The 883 class was so close at the finish line you could have thrown a blanket over five riders. And the 7S0cc class from heat races to semis to main, was great. Most 01 all, the event became special when I took my son into the pits and Scott Parker gave him his celebration champagne bottle - which he had signed by Steve Morehead, Kevin Atherton, Ronnie Jones, Jimmy Filice, Chris Carr, Mike Inderbitzen, Larry Pegram and many more. It was a great show with great people. We sure got our money's worth. Mickey Lane Vallejo, CA Ryan Hughes deserves recognition for .his·valiant efforts in chasing the 12Scc National MX Championship on a semifactory bike, and for his incredible second-place finish on a SOOcc bike in the Motocross des Nations. Ryan represents the sport of motocross very well and he gets my vote for Cycle News Rider of the Month. Great job, Ryno. Your presence is known. William Crawford Ledyard, CT Cheers to Parker MX fanatic My friend and I attended the Knoxville Half Mile to hopefully see in person Scott Parker and Bill Werner clinch a record-setting sixth Grand National Championship. And It happened. I've been fortunate enough to have had the chance to see about 10 National Motocross / Supercross events this past year, and have a few comments/ questions. I thought the fans that Team Ryno rules Yamaha passed out at the races were a great marketing idea. I was greatly impressed by how the semi-factory teams did, such as Honda of Troy, Team Noleen Sizzler, and Pro Circuit Split Fire. The 12Scc National Series wa~ one of the best I've ever seen; the last race at Delmont was great. It is unfortuna te that both Steve Lamson and Ryan Hughes could not win the championship, as both have had their share of injuries and bad luck the past two years. I thought the ESPN coverage was great this year, and I appreciated the full page ads in Cycle News. It helped me to keep track of the event schedule. I had a question about who the riders negotiate with when it's contract time. Do they negotiate with the team manager, such as Roy Turner or Roger DeCoster, or is it more with a corporate financial person? It was also good to see Damon Bradshaw back. He may not have won a race yet, but I think he brought back some excitement to the races. Thanks again to Cycle News. I'm looking forward to more great race coverage. Laura Kimball Dublin,OH At least initially, all negotiations are done through the respective team managers as they are the first line of commllnicanorl for the riders. From the:re, ti,e team managers are likely to seek the aid of senior marlagement... Editor. The Web The Cycle News World Wide Web page is great. I have been a long-time subscriber to Cycle News, but the week-or-so delay was sometimes a little long to wait for results. Now I can get fast results and then wait a week or so to get the magazine in the mail and get all the details. Good job and keep it up. Don Platek Ostrander, OH The Cycle News Homepage on the World . An rights merved. Sacto good I want to comment on the video, Crusty Demons of Dirt. Donn Maeda's review was right on the money. This tape is the On Any Slmday of the '90s. This is a must tape for any dirt bike fanatics. As Donn stated, there are a few scenes that need to be overlooked. But the overall content of some awesome riding more than overshadows the offensive scenes. And no, there are no masturbation scenes as stated in the Voices section by Dutch Nicols - unless you play the tape upside down and in reverse. And the Pros are not the ones in the raunchy and sleazy interludes. As my nine-year-old and his buddy said after watching this tape: Those guys are crazy. They are no more likely to go out and get drunk and crash therr bikes than they would try a fifth-gear sanddune death launch. Teach your children right from wrong, and they will know what is best to survive in life. John Meyer Phoenix, AZ SHOW Paris Motorcycle Show ~c\Tffll0N Unfortunately, it seemed only a small group of people knew what had happened. It's a shame when the AMA misses a golden opportunity to capitalize on a situation like this at an aw\!some facility like Knoxville. It is a perfect example why dirt track riders and teams don't get the recognition they deserve. Congratulations to Scott and Bill on a great season and a record championship.
