Photos by Kinney Jones TIJRKEY, TX, OCT. 1 he pressure was on. Even though Kawasaki Team Green's Ty Davis held a commanding series points lead and had already won four of the six previous rounds going into the Caprock Canyon National Enduro in Texas, and had the title all but wrapped up, this event was a pressure cooker for the former 12Scc Western Regional Supercross Champion. For one, Davis knew that if he didn't clinch the title in Texas on terrain that suites his riding style to a tee, he would have to travel back east for the final two rounds of the series and have to take on title pursuers Randy Hawkins and Steve Hatch in their own back yards. He really dido't want to do that. Plus, Davis has another big race on T If) 0\ 0\ .....-I 00 .....-I ~ Q) .g ... o 14 U the horizon to think about - the Baja 1000 - a very important race for Kawasaki and Kawasaki Team Green, and Davis would like nothing more than to prepare for that race without having a ational Championship title chase hanging over his head. And, just to increase the pressure one more notch, Davis was scheduled to attend the nationwide Kawasaki dealer show in Washington, D.C., the following week, and Kawasaki wanted nothing more to show off a National Enduro Champion as well as displaying a titlewinning Kawasaki motorcycle. All these things were on the mind of Davi as he waited for his minute to come up to start round seven of the nine-race National Enduro Series. And when it was allover, Davis could breath a huge sigh of relief after edging out Hawkins by one point for the overall win and his first off-road ational title. The cards were seemingly stacked against Hawkins and Hatch going into the event. While Davis was practicing in Texas preparing for the upcoming Caprock Canyon ational, Hawkins and Hatch were in Poland, competing in the International Six Day Enduro, where Hawkins rode a 12Scc Suzuki. In Texas, Hawkins would have little time to readjust to the more-familiar 250cc mount he uses at the Nationals. And to make matters worse, Hawkins and Hatch flew straight from Poland to Las Vegas for the Suzuki dealer show, then straight from La Vegas to Texas on Friday. "It realJy wasn't as difficult as it sounds," said Hawkins. 'We're paid to race and do what we have to do. Actually, after riding about 180 miles a day in Poland, this was quite easy." The ball was certainly in Davis' court, but that did little in the way to relieve the pressure of having to clinch the title in Texas. "You could say there was quite a bit of pressure, but probably the most pressure was just the fact that I wanted it (the Championship) for myself," said Davis. "This was my first (off-road) championship, Kawasaki's first in the enduro series, and I'm the first to win the enduro title from the West. I think that's pretty neat. Plus, taking the title here really made my upcoming schedule much easier." "It was a do-<>r-die race for me," said
