EVENTS and with Scarbrough, Palacios and the pack close behind. Ladely began pressuring the KX of Fernandez within three comers of the moto and then waited until Fernandez went into "The Corkscrew" to make his move. He went underneath Fernandez, but the Kawasaki rider's higher cornering speed allowed him to maintain the lead. Ladely then pulled into the lead as they rounded the bend heading into the chicane. Fernandez then outbraked Ladely as the two went into the chicane, but after a little bumping Ladely emerged from the turn in sale possession of the lead. Fernand.ez kept the Yamaha rider within striking distance but was not able to challenge for the lead before the end of the moto. Ladely took his second win of the evening and held off Fernandez to take the overall win. R.sults PeeWHTrack STK A: 1, Justin Workman (Yam); 2. Sean Mclnroe (Yam). STK B: 1. Bryce Tenian (LEM); 2. The impact never fazed Burdette, but the rest of the line was held up trying to get around and Burdette built a commanding lead that would not be challenged. In the second mota, Burdette obviously hung back to let someone else have the lead. Langlois held the lead but went down several times in the mota, and each time Burdette stopped his bike to let Langlois remount - and even helped langlois pick a better line to ride. Johnson takes Trans-Cal Motocross opener By SCott Hoffman ADELANTO, CA, SEPT. 17 Team Green prodigy Casey Johnson was one of the big victors at the opening round of CMC's Sunstar Sprockets Trans-Cal Nationals at Sunrise Valley Raceway. Aboard his Team SplitFire Kawasaki, Johnson took home the cash in the 125cc Pro class during CMC's fi~al race at Sunrise Valley Raceway. In the first 125cc Pro class, Johnson shot into the early lead followed by a slew of aggressive riders. David Pingree held. the runner-up spot for the first part of the opening lap followed by David Eviliszer and a hard-charging Brandes, who was the first to make a move as he quickly shot past Eviliszer and set his Sights on Pingree. Going into the second lap/ Brandes was all over Pingree's rear wheel. Pingree held tight, but Brandes was still able to motor to the inside and take second. Back up front, Brandes was on the gas with Johnson in his Sights. Brandes rode hard to close the gap, but Johnson matched his ellery move to stay out front. The leaders started to slow as the laps wore on, and Pingree drew doser. While Johnson was out front, back in the pack FWbacked Travis Preston was slicing through the field after a poor start, Preston move his way past Eviliszer, Dustin Nelson and Casey Lytle to eventually finish. fourth. When the black and white flew for the final lap, Johnson took the win followed by Brandes and Pingree. With race gas in his bike and determination in his mind, Pingree shot into the lead at the start of mota two. Behind Pingree at the start of the race were Chris Wheeler and Travis Preston. Johnson ran in the fourth spot early in lap one while Brandes weaseled his way to fi.fth after gating poorly. Brandes shot past Johnson briefly, but eventually fell off the pace and finished fifth. Up front, Pingree extended his lead over Wheeler and looked to have fum control of the race. By the halfway point, Johnson got his second wind and started to make his move to the front of the pack. Johnson picked off Preston and was after Wheeler. With little fight, Johnson systematically moved into seconst and was off for the lead, but time was a factor, and he had to settle for secon·d. When the race was over, Pingree was the winner with Johnson and Wheeler tailing. Johnson took home the overall with 1-2 finishes • over Pingree. R.sults P/W (4-6): 1. Jeff Alessi (LEM); 2. Procida MORENO VALLEY, CA, SEPT. i3 Chris Ladely christened a new track layout at Starwest Supereross Park with a double-moto win in the 2SOcc Beginner class. The 125cc and 250ce Beginners were grouped together with the 2S+ and 30+ Novices, making for a full gate when the race started. Bob Palacios grabbed the holeshot ahead of Joe Fernandez, but Fernandez jumped over and passed Palacios as the pair crested the camelback jump. Scott Scarbrough used an in-and-out move in the esses to get by Ladely. At the front, Fernandez was losing ground to Palacios as the pair headed into "Ron's U." As Fernandez slowed down, he crossed paths with Palacios, inadvertently bJocking the Honda rider. Ladely made his move going into "Th.e Corkscrew" and led the pack going out onto "The Expressway." Fernandez exited the track with a flat rear tire and then returned to action with a vengeance, picking off riders left and right. But it was Ladely who was doing most of the passing as he began to lap slower traffic on his way to an unchallenged win. When the gate dropped for the second moto, Fernandez didn't wait for anyone and led the pack out onto the track. Ladely had gated sec- STK BEG (~): 1. Phillip Aube (KTM); 2. Yezek tops Pleasure Valley MX By Julie Kremer JOHNSTOWN, PA, SEPT. 17 Over 250 riders aiiended the second round of the Pennsylvania/West Virginia State Championships held at Pleasure Valley Raceway and it was Davey Yezek, after heated battles with Kevin Windham who came out on top of the 250cc Pro class in what could only be called some of the best racing of the day. Yezek left the gate first in the opening 250cc A moto with Windham not far behind, showing that this was going to be the race to watch. Halfway through the contest things started to heat up between Yezek and Windham. The bar banging began on a downhiJI and Windham was the one who came out with the advantage. He didn't keep it for very long, though, '!" during the following lap, Windham took the inside line in the bowl turn and, going over the ensuing tabletop, the pair ended up side by side, with Windham taking over the lead to ride off to the first-moto win. Back in the pack there was an ongoing battle for third between Joshua Sweat and the trailing Jeff Yentzer, but Yentzer found an opening on the white-flag lap and passed Sweat back for third. Rounding out the top five was Josh Demuth. Billy Siagg snatched the holeshot in the second 250cc A mota, only to have it quickly taken away by Yezek. Windham, winner of the first mota, started off in fourth and again had his work cut out for him with Siagg and Yentzer to get around if he wanted to challenge for the lead. Windham finally made his bid, passed the Slagg/Yentzer duo with two laps to go and was soon right on Yezek's rear wheel. On the final lap, searching for a way to get past Yezek, Windham pushed too hard and ended his race in a Superman-type crash, legs flailing behind as ·he went through the whoops. Windham bailed off the bike before he hit the conerete wall he was heading for. Before the end of the lap, Yentzer lost his newly inherited third place to Sweat, with Lawson rounding out the top five. l
