When I first heard that Mike Kiedrowski was retiring from racing, I felt my heart drop. My favorite motocross racer would not be racing anymore, and the worst part about it isn't even that I never got to go to a race and meet him. What hurts is that I feel he can still win - especially the Supercross title. I've always anticipated the day that I would see Mike on the podium receiving his Number One plate in front of a stadium crowd, just like he had done outdoors before. Now I have to accept the fact that it may never come. In the beginning I felt cheated, but as I watched my MX-KIED highlight reel, I remembered what made him my favorite; his down-to-earth attitude with the fans, his refusal to have a big ego, even though his accomplishments warranted one (Kiedrowski is the only one to have won the Triple Crown of AMA outdoor MX titles), his never.give-up attitude and his smooth riding style - not to mention his All-American boy smile and dimples. I'm sure we all will never forget the way he dominated Daytona and Hangtown three years in a row, or the entire 1993 ational MX Series for that matter. Or the way he provided us with one of the most spectacular last-lap charges at the 1994 Dallas Supercross. I would like to congratulate Mike Kiedrowski on more than an impressive racing career. I would like to thank him because he will always be one of the main reasons that I am a motocro sand supercross fan. Janea Hamilton SI. Albans, NY company like Thor Racing would allow their name to be used endorsing binge beer drinking, simulated masturbation, and shooting a loaded pistol from a moving vehicle. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the factory riders in the video don't receive some serious memos from their sponsors. I've been riding dirt bikes since 1968. I've worked hard to raise my daughter and son within the sport to respect others and portray a healthy image. We all race motocross. I spend clo e to $300 per weekend just to race. Annually, I spend close to $3000 on clothing and parts. This does not include my new bike purchase (every other year). Rest assured, I will never purchase any Thor clothing in the future. The opinion I am conveying here is not just my own. Parents and numerous other riders I've talked to at the races all agree the action is "incredible," but the other "stuff" ruined it. One parent even shared with me the . reaction his 12-year-old (80cc Intermediate) had. "Dad, why do I have to act so clean all of the time when you can see what the pros are doing?" Enough said. Dutch Nichols Atascadero, CA effort was made to remove the oil from the racing surface, Due .to the moist condition of the track early in the day, the racing surface needed to be covered with oil dry, then swept to soak up the oil and then the dirt was physically removed from the track. We realize all of this takes time, however, we follow through because we not only want the Springfield Mile to be one of the best races, but we want it to also be safe for the riders. Unfortunately, the race fans who are in and out of the grandstand early in the day are left in the dark about what's happening on the track and in the pit area. We want our loyal fans to enjoy a great day of racing, not sit in the stands and think the IMDA or the AMA are not capable of putting on a great event. In the future, we will announce more of what is taking place during the course of the day. Again, a huge thanks to all race fans. We hope you will be back next year. Denise Hartley Executive Director Roger Reiman Track Manager Springfield, IL Meyer congrats IMDA thanks Crusty demons I just read Donn Maeda's review of the video "Crusty Demons of Dirt." What a coincidence this should appear in your publication just as I was about to write Thor Racing concerning my (and otlhers') views on the content of this video. Maeda is correct in describing the bike action as "wide open," but I think what could have been a video I would share with both my riding and non-riding friends and neighbors can only be shown to those who understand the riding and can ignore the excessive (raunchy and sleazy) interludes. I find it hard to believe a reputable A tip of my helmet to Doug L. Meyer for his record-setting performance at the recent Bonneville Speed Trials. A record speed of 193.377 mph and a fastest run of 196.037 mph is really getting the job done. I remember how hard I worked to run that fast years ago with my fuel Sportster. It makes you wonder if entry to the Bonneville 200 mph Club is just another event away for Doug. I guess I'll have to go to Bonneville in 1996 and cheer him on. Warner W. Riley Lake Forest, IL On behalf of the members of the Illinois Motorcycle Dealers Association, we would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our loyal race fans who attended two "Springfield Miles" and "The DuQuoin Magic Mile" in 1995. Without the riders and our loyal fans, where would we be. Since the September 3, 1995, Springfield Mile, we have received numerous calls and letters regarding the late starting time of our event. I would like to clarify the situation. Early in the practice session a major oil spill (it could have been the Exxon Valdez) was found on the groove. Congrats to Doriano Romboni at Team Agostini Honda and Kel Carruthers for the 250cc Grand Prix win in Brazil.
