were going the same pace ana I just couldn't catch up what I lost in the first few laps." CN Demaria crashed out. French GP Chateau du Loir, France Results: September 3, 1995 (Left) Yamahamounted Andrea Bartolini took the overall In France and finished seventh In the series point standings. (Below) American Tallon Vohland (8) gives chase to Rob Herring (12) and Bob Moore (41) In the second moto. Vohland finished third in the championship, six points ahead of Kurt Nicoli (5). "All of the disappointments of the last few years went through my mind as I rode round," a jubilant Bervoets said. 'There were tears in my eyes. It was difficult to concentrate on racing." Entering the last two laps he was down to 15th and only had to head off Bader Manneh to score. a single point, which at this stage was irrelevant. Film crews, photographers and Belgian supporters vied to greet Everts first. It was chaotic. There were three photo finishes in the points positions before Everts arrived, and the human masses made the finish line impassable as soon as Moore and Vohland had gone through. Nicoll kept on the gas and made the jump to snatch sixth from Thierry Bethys, while further back, Remy Van Rees had no chance to try to overtake 10th-place Paul Cooper. Beirer, 13th across the line in moto one, finally was forced to cease his pursuit of Joakim Karlsson. "I still haven't clinched fifth in the championship ahead of Tragter," explained Pamo teamster Beirer, "but if I hadn't shut off I would have collided with someone." Moore had passed Vohland early on to win the moto after home-favorite Yves Demaria had exited with a broken fuel line. Vohland's second place clinched the'manufacturers' title for Kawasaki. Nicoll, Vohland's rival for the individual bronze medal, was angry with himself for having erred early in the race. "I gated ninth but was already higher when I fell off on the first lap," said the Brit. "It was a stupid little fall. I'm riding so good this week. I know I am the fastest, but that (crash) probably cost me the medal." There were still several scores to be settled in the second moto, but only two men ever looked like they would win Beirer and Bartolini. The German holeshot but was soon displaced by the Italian. "1 wasn't worried," said Beirer. "1 knew (Bartolini) couldn't hold that pace for 40 minutes, and after so many problems in the last few GPs I wanted to settle down and not make silly mistakes early on. When I made my charge a few laps from the end it was no problem to take the lead again." The moto win was Bierer's second of the year. Bartolini was also not too unhappy because second place secured him the overall on the day, and even if he had landed the moto win, it still would not have been quite enough to dislodge Tragter from sixth in the standings. Yohland and Moore had been close early on, but they were soon fading from the scene. Moore was troubled throughout with his front suspension and eventually quit after 20 minutes, but Vohland did enough to earn the number-three plate for 1996. "1 was riding good for three laps and then I started thinking about the points," the American said. "I started riding bad and making mistakes. 1 managed to shake myself out of it agp.in in the last few laps when Nicoll passed me. I knew 1 only had to follow him home." Nicoll had been down in turn three again. ''Vohland came across Herring, and Rob fell and I couldn't miss him," said Nicoll. Herring saw it differently. "Tallon had pushed me out the turn before," Herring said, "but I think Kurt's tires simply found no grip when he braked for the third comer." In any case, Nicoll finished the second moto in fifth place, with Vohland meeting the flag seventh. . The top two in the series didn't need to ride in the second moto, and Bervoets probably wished that he hadn't after a first-lap fall left him to charge all moto only to finish 14th. MOTO 2: 1.
