I used my instincts rather than taking the safe lines. 1 just wasn't dialed in today, and Geoff rode like a champi- 20 over the bars. Young also had a big crash - but his came in section 12. Kempkes also fell victim to the 12th section, and his rear subframe was sheared off in his violent crash. Third after the first loop was Clamagirand, followed closely by Hallsted. "My position was already set for the year, so 1 was out to have a good time," said Oamagirand. "Again 1 got several fives. 1 just don't get it how to get traction here." Any hope that Young might have had was dashed on the second loop. While Young's score rose four points to 16, Aaron rode without fault and came back to the pits with a five-point card. . "I feel steady today," said Aaron. "So far, I've kept all my points on the left side of the card. It seems like I'm riding better and better every day." Hallsted found his form on lap two and bested Young with a 14. "1 had some really good rides," said Hallsted. "Most of the time, the calls went my way, but they are really quick to five you out." Aaron drove the final nail into Young's coffin with a spectacular eightpoint final loop. Young had his best loop yet with an 11, but the damage was done and Aaron had successfully defended his National Championship. Hallsted came into the pits with a 15point loop card and secured the best overall finish if his season. Oamagirand was fourth. "1 didn't want to win by just a little," said Aaron. "1 wanted to win by a lot, and that's what 1 did. 1 need to thank my rninder Ron Commo Jr., as well as my sponsors - Cosmopolitan Motors, Beta Motor Italy, Elf, ReS Racing, Tryals Shop, Gaeme, Xtreme, Renthal, Braking and Michelin. 1 couldn't have done it without them." "[ had two fives that were ridiculous," said Young, ever gracious in on." Hallsted was excited about his thirdplace finish. "This is the closest I've ever been to second," said Hallsted. "1 was only 14 points back This gives me a lot to look forward to next season." rN Oregon Nationals TIllamook, Oregon Resuhs: september 2-3,1995 Saturday CHAMPIONSHIP: 1.
