As soon as the Japanese rider crashed and remained down on the asphalt, the red flags went out around the circuit. Based on the running order at the finish line the lap before, Fogarty was declared the winner, with Slight second and Reynolds third. The latter two riders had fought out an impressive battle for second place after Corser and Crafar's crash. Lucchiari was classified fourth after a lonely race in front of the unfortunate Nagai, who had just passed his teammate Edwards before crashing. Gobert finished seventh. For Fogarty, things had gone just fine on the circuit which saw him make his international debut in 1988. "I had no worries; everything felt good, and 1 was able to stretch my advantage to seven or eight seconds." Slight had a more intriguing race. "I struggled a little, because the setup of the bike was not really perfect," he said. "I couldn't keep pace with Carl, but I wasn't happy to stay behind Troy and Simon. I got past them only a few laps from the end, and then put my head down. It was only a couple of laps later that I turned back and saw that John Reynolds was behind.". . Edwards, who had seen his teammate crash, was still very much in shock over what had happened. "The start was okay; but 1 lost the draft on the sec-. ond lap," the Texan said. "We need more power." Gobert was even unhappier after the second race than after the first one. "I . have no more motivation left," he said. "I only hope that I can win some more races this year. 1 look forward to the final race in Australia." Circuit van Drenthe AMen, Holland ~uItlI: 5eptIImber 10,1995 QUALIFYING: I.
