Ricky Carmichael came to the
AMA Amateur Nationals at Loretta
Lynn's with a win in mind and had to
battle more than a hungry field of competitors. The track had been turned into
a mudbath by a team of thunderstorms
a few days earlier. But Carmichael was
unshaken. From the start, he blazed a
rut in the mud and never looked back.
Carmichael proved once again
unbeatable as he swept the 85cc
stock and 85cc modified class by
winning every moto. By the end of the
weekend, he had snagged not only
the national title, but also a sweet
place on more than one page of
the AMA record book.

class for almost a'
