ByT.L. Coss
PANA, lL, AUG. 13
"F1yin'" Ian Segedy sailed his TLC Racing Rotax
to his second win of th.e weekend during the
Expert Main at the Pana Tri-County Fairgrounds
Half Mile.
Brent Armbruster grabbed the holeshot but
was quickly sandwiched by Dave Hebb and
Segedy. With the competition bumping elbows
close behind him, Armbruster edged into ihe
lead and held on for over a lap. Segedy maneuvered past on lap two and built a comfortable
lead while Hebb and Armbruster jousted for
several laps. Hebb eventually emerged in second place and made a substantial effort to
catch Segedy, but the leader had it dialed in
perfectly and led all the way to the checkers.
Armbruster held off a charging pack to nail
down"third.
The Dash for Cash featured the top-two finishers from each of the three Expert heats. Hebb
and Dan Koelsch took the honors for heat one,
joined by Bret Beyer and Segedy from the' second \leat, and Armbruster and Steve Gill from
the third. They would be racing for the winnertake-all $1000 prize.
At the start it was Armbruster with the
holeshot while the entire pack jumped onto his
rear wheel. Koelsch slid high, taking himself and
Segedy to the top of tum two. Armbruster tried
to leave, but Beyer overtook him on lap two. A
dogfight ensued, and a determined Beyer maintained the lead to lake home the big bucks.
The 600cc Pro-Am win went to Chris Boone
followed by Troy Thomas and Ryan Brown.
In the Senior 40+ class, 64-year-old Grandpa
Jim Beck handily won the heat race. The main
saw Beck off the line last, however, and he had
to work his way ihrough the pack. Despite a
good effort at reeling in the leader, Beck had to
settle far,a close second behind winner Gary
Brennan.
The Senior 30+ final saw a battIe between
Kevin Sievers and Steve Johnson with Sievers
taking the victory. Heat winner Ron Cochran got
off to a bad start in the main but worked his way
up to third by the flag lap.
