, 250 & 725 Remember how awesome last year's YZ125 and YZ250 were? The YZ125 won the Motocross Shootout in Cycle News. The YZ250 snagged Bike of the Year honors from Motocross Action Magazine. • Great bikes-but they're history now, because while everyone was getting pumped over them, the guys in the white engineer coats and the guys in the helmets were busy re-designing the YZ125 and YZ250 from just about ground zero.• First-new engine. There's a new crank, which opened the door to new cylinder porting. Both the 125 and 250 are different than the '95 design and now spew out more low-end and mid-range, to create a broader powerband. The 125 received a new Mikuni carburetor with a trick carbon fiber reed, and a redesigned guillotine power valve.• The 250 took on a better Keihin carb and a new passageway into the resonator chamber. Both bikes also have improved air cleaner layouts for a straighter intake, and redesigned pipe and silencer set-ups for better exhaust tuning. Other power tweaks include a digital CD! on the 250 and redesigned shift forks in both trannies .• New frame this year-geometry and everything.
