Hall, Budd continue sidecar
Motocross dominance
By Greg Robertson
PALMDALE,CA,jULY22
The Leading Links Sidecar Motocross. Club
made a rare appearance at Los Angeles County
Raceway to join the California Racing Clubs regulars for a night of racing under the lights, and
Ed Hall and Brady Budd continued their recent
dominance by running away from the field in
both motos.
Hall and Budd grabbed the first-moto
holeshot ahead of the Ken Mclntyer/Les
Ketcham and Scott Gregory/Glen L'Meureux
rigs. Hall and Budd made roosting around the
track on a 360-pound Honda CR500-powered
sidecar look almost easy as they increased their
lead with each lap to nab the win. The Gregory/L'Meureux team found their way around
Mclntyer/Ketcham at the hallway point, but
were overtaken for the runner-up fX>sition a lap
later by Mike Bums and Bob Morgan, who h.ad
charged up from a fifth place start.
Round two saw the Maico-powered rig of
Mclntyer/Ketcham jump out to an early lead
over the teams of Bums/Morgan and Damon
Doherty/Joeri Wong Unhing. Hall and Budd
had
climbed
from
fifth
to
join
Mclntyer/Ketcham and Burns/Morgan in a
great three-hack battle for the lead. At the midway point Hall/Budd jumped past BumsIMorgan down the back straight to move into second.
A short time later Mcintyre/Ketcham waved
Hall/Budd past and into the lead when they
developed rear-brake problems.
Once out front, Hall/Budd easily pulled
away for their second win of the evening.
"We hung back off the start to see exactly
what we could do," said Hall.
'We could see Ketcham and Mclntyer were
pulling ahead and we couldn't get by those guys
in front of us," Budd added. '1rs not that wide
out there. It was cool though, it was fun."
The Burns/Morgan team came across the
line in second for second overall.
uWftd rather have .the win, but second is better than nothing," said Burns. "We're getting
better though, getting closer and closer."

PALMDALE, CA, JULY 29
Yamaha-mounted Jeff Eide smoked the competition in the first 125cc Beginner moto, then came
back from last place in moto two to finish second, claiming the overall honors in the class
during California Racing Club's Saturday-night
motocross at Los Angeles County Raceway.
Joe Barker got things off to a good start in
the opening moto with a holeshot, followed by
Eide, Art Salazar and Sean Sorrenti. Halfway
through the first lap, Barker put his front wheel
over the top of a sandy berm and planted himself on the ground. Eide inherited the lead and
started to pull away from a good battle between
Salazar and Andrew Minchow for second.
By the midway point, Eide had put 10 seconds on Salazar, who not only had Minchow
showing him his front fender in every tum, but
now had Barker to contend with as he made his
way toward the front after his miscue. Barker
was the fastest rider of the trio, and forged into
the runner-up position with a couple of laps
remaining.
Eide took the first-moto win by a comfortable margin over Salazar who was banded sec- ond when Barker went down again on the final
lap. Minchow brought his 125cc Husky across
the line for third ahead of Barker and Sorrenti.
Eide grabbed the early second-moto lead,
but a disastrous first lap saw him come around
in last place. By the second lap, the Yamaha
rider had worked back up to fifth behind Sorrenti. A lap later, he found himself involved in a
three-way battle for second with Minchow and
Salazar. It took Eide a couple of laps to find a
way around Salazar; he then doubled past Minchow on the final lap to grab second, where he
would finish. Barker managed to stay upright
and would eventually distance himself from the
field to greet the checkers with 15 seconds to
spare, thus securing the second-place trophy for
his 4- r efforts.
