The Danish-born Knudsen defeated series leaders Tony Rickardsson of Sweden and Denmark's Hans Nielsen in the A Final to earn the win, which vaulted him into the top 10 in points, with 44. If he continues his pace, he may well remain on the GP trail for 1996. It would be a fine achievement by Knudsen, who crashed out of the first round in Poland. Hancock enjoyed his best Grand Prix performance yet with a determined display which saw him secure third place in his A Final debut after qualifying with 11 points. He was a model of consistency throughout his qualifiers and did well to beat Nielsen in the big showdown. Hancock's finish also earned him top-American status as countryman Sam Ermolenko battled through another frustrating' night, suffering bike problems while leading Knudsen in heat nine; a victory there would have helped Ermolenko in his bid for the A Final. Ermolenko went on to finish fourth behind England's Chris Louis, Australia's Craig Boyce and Sweden's Peter Karlsson in the B Final. American Billy Hamill was also more subdued after crashing in his opening ride, but he picked himself up and went on to qualify for and win the C Final. With two rounds to go, the battle for the championship has developed into a twohorse race as Nielsen leads Rickardsson, 69-63. Louis is now in third with 55, three points in front of Hamill. Ermolenko and Hancock are tied for eighth in the series standings with 47 poiJ:'ts each.
