their econd run a t the hill, Shreiner returned with a 7.382 ride but wouldn't help his cause any. When it was all over, he'd end up 13th. The rider of the class was Ted Wilkins who put a perfect ride together on his second run with a fast 6.319. His time would hold giving him his first Pro hillclirnb win of the year. Paul Pinsonnault hammered his Honda in an attempt to beat out Wilkins, but settled with a 6.339 for second overall. "I just think it (the bike) was geared a little slow," said Pinsonnault. "The bike screamed a little too much. It wasn't pulling hard like it should have." . Rick Soter pushed his BSA to the limit on the drag-strip part of the hill to clock in with a 6.515. The time was good enough for third place. "I never shut it off," said Soter. "I'm not so sure that was the thing to do. I floated the valves and that probably slowed me down a little." Scott Everett draw the first start position in the 800cc class and, like Shreiner in the 540cc class, Everett had to skip his run when his th.reecylinder Triumph refused to start. The bike never did ignite. Lou Gerencer stopped the clocks with a 6.426, setting the pace for the big-bore riders. His teammate, Harry Schreiber, put his nitro Harley onto the hill quickly only to get kicked off on the third kicker, taking a spill. He landed underneath his bike, destroying his helmet. He was taken to the hospital with a broken arm. It was this incident that prompted the course change after the first round of action. Steve Dresser put his stretched nitro burner onto the hill in an aggressive attempt to get a good ride out of the challenging terrain. He clocked a 7.106. In the second round, Lou Gerencer Jr. rocketed up the hill with the front wheel floating, stopping the clock at a remarkable 5.650. No one could top his performance, and he would wind up taking his second National of the season. "I kept the thing wide open over the jump on the top part of the hill and motored right over and th.rough the lights," said Gerencer. Dresser grabbed second overall with a 6.018 ride up the hill, shaving over a second off his first run. "I don't think I could've made up the time to catch Lou, but I sure could've gotten closer," said Dresser. Yamaha rider Rodney Smith powered up the hill to third place after posting a 6.037. "My second ride, I came out a little slow," said Smith. "It bogged, but other than that, this Yamaha really seems to do the job." 0 Marquette Mountain Marquette, MI Results: July 22, 1995 (Round 5 0114) 540: 1. Ted Wilkins (Rtx); 2.
