ority with the KXI25's mill. As a result, the main exhaust port, sub exhaust port and transfer port timing have all been changed. In addition, the sub exhaust ports have been broadened, the number three transfer port has been reshaped and the cylinder skirt below the number three transfer port has been cut away. The 125's piston profile is different in an effort to improve durability. A higher compression head is now used, and two new air-flow control wings have been added to the 35mrn Keihin PWK carb at the air funnel, which increases air-intake velocity, according to Kawasaki. The carbon-fiber reeds used last year have been traded in for more sensitive carbon-fiber reeas. There have beep many improvements to increase durability, such as th'icker walls of the exhaust's header pipe, and the front-bracket welding procedure has been updated; the clutch housing now incorporates a conical spring/washer at the outside of the clutch gear, and the transmission's shifting mechanism has been strengthen. The final drive gearing has been changed slightly, both front and rear sprockets are one tooth larger. In the chassis department, the perimeter-style frame is the same as last year's with one significant change to the Uni-Trak link mount. The lower frame cross pipe is now thicker. The still-inverted fork features some significant changes. The 46mm Kayaba cartridge fork has 3mm-bigger inner tubes but, according to Kawasaki, weighs the same due to the new inner tube's decreased waIl thickness. The cartridge itself is larger as is the damping piston, resulting in increased oil volume and capacity. The only change to the rear shock is a larger port piston. The swingarm incorpgra tes a thrust bearing in the pivot area to reduce lateral movement, and it also has a flanged swingarm sleeve to increase the surface area contacting the crankcases for reduced contact pressure. The Uni-Trak linkage ratio has been changed, too. The wheel rims now have solid-type beads ra ther than hollow. Other changes include a redesigned front number plate, a shorter front brake cable, a redesigned rear brake pedal, stronger Duralimin sprockets, and new rear sprocket bolts, a new stronger upper throttle case, a new gas cap and longer-wearing seat padding. The KX250's motor was tuned for more "over-run" power. The cylinder's sub-exhaust ports and transfer ports were raised by O.2mm and O.3mm, respectively, and the ignition timing has been changed, as well. The carburetor feature the same changes as the KXI25 with the new air-flow control wings. In the transmission, the shift-fork internal diameter and shift-rod diameter have both been increased by 2mm, and the crankcase bosses which the shift fork and rod ride in have also been enlarged by2mrn. That's pretty much it for the motor, and, chassis-wise, the KX250 features all of the same Changes as the 125. No changes have been· made to the KXSOO's motor, but it does now feature the same fork used on last year's (1995) KX250. Other changes include a new front number plate, brake hose, new. rear sprocket bolts, fuel cap and lower handlebars. . The suggested retail prices are as follows: KX60 $2199; KX80 $2799; KXI00 $3199; KXI25 $4749; KX250 $5599, and KXSOO $5499. All of the bikes should be available by mid-August. 0 lABOR DAY WEEKEND Friday, September 1st saturday, September 2nd Sunday, September 3rd f!1D)~ ~ .
