By Clay Light ALBANY, OR, JULY8 The largest turnout of dirt track competitors this past half decade was on hand for the season· opening quarter-mile flat track race at Albany Speedway. Double winners on hand for the first of four events mcluded Lance Overman, the 250cc and Open A winner. and 40+ and Open Pro winner Bob Ingle. Ingle. who made tbe fjve~hour trek from southern Oregon. continued his incredible winning streak after prevailing in the 40+ A main. Ingle then came back to chase down local motocross pro Gary Beyer on the opening Lap of the Open Pro main, pushing into the Lead, and then maintaining a slim advantage to the check· ered flag to pick up the second of his two wins. Second went Beyer's way, while Suzuki rider Wayne Frampton took home the third-place money. Beyer's day wasn't a totaL washout, though, as he thumped his way to an easy win in the motocross class aboard his Husaberg. Probably the d~y's best battle came for the number-two spot behind Beyer between Kenny McCann and Kawasaki rider Doug MacDuffee The two were never more than a few inches apart in a close shootout which went McCann's way. Fourth went to another Husaberg rider, Paul Meusling. Overman, riding a Suzuki, had a great day. Despite thundershowers making the track quite slippery, Overman manhandled an eight-rider 250cc A main to pick up a win over David Moore, then backed it up by winning the first of two divisions of Open machines, this time beating Honda rider Andy Crane. In Division Two, Yamaha rider Steve Loraine won ahead of Frampton. l~ Results PRO: I. Bob Ingl~ (Yam): 2. Cary 8c.-y.:r (Hsb); 3. Wayne Frolrnpton (Suz).
