I 'EVENTS' :', EdIted by SCott. Rousseau' The main event in the class showcased Garth Bastin, Paul Lynch and Tim Eades. Bastin had the pole but Roy Miller' got on the gas at the start to nab the holeshot and the lead, but only for part of the first lap. Eades was on the move and took the point position from Miller as they exited turn three. The fading Miller was then displaced to fourth, as Bastin and Lynch sailed by. Eades was leading but Bastin was making his bid, the two riders battling side by side on more than one occasion for the next two laps. But side by side evidently was not close enough as the leaders touched in turns three and four. The two riders almost went down and the bobble allowed Lynch to take control of the race. Bastin regained his momentum more quickly than Eades and closed on Lynch with three laps to go. The 16year-old from New York took over the point position off of turn four to garner the win. Lynch would hold on to second as Eades gathered himself together for the third. I:N RlI8Ulta 750 EX: 1. Larry Pegram (H-D); 2. Steve Morehead; 3. George Roeder; 4. Georgie Price IV; S. Kawasaki Volunteer State IX C'ship Sellards stellar at Muddy Creek By Barbara Williams Photos by Loren WIlliams BLOUNTVD.U, TN, JULY 8-9 rock Sellards had a score to settle. The last time he came to Muddy Creek Raceway you might say he had a little bit of bad luck. After all, he showed up to race armed with three motorcycles and none of them stayed running long enough to see the finish Line. This time, at the lIth Annual Kawasaki Volunteer State MX Championships, Sellards came to Muddy Creek well-prepared and wasn't about to let the same bad luck strike twice. As things turned out, it did not. In fact, quite the opposite was the case. Not only did Sellards finish every moto he competed in, but the Team Green rider won all three of the classes he entered, squeaking. to victory in the 125cc B class and smoking to success in both the 250cc B and Unlimited Amateur classes. His closest escape came in the 12Sec B class where he traded 1-2 moto finishes with Robbie Horton. Luckily for Sellards, he won the important one of the two motos - the tie-breaking second moto - thus walking away with the overall honors in the class. It was a close race, though, as Horton matched Sellards' every move, lap after lap, but Horton was never able to make the allimportant pass. Nicholas Wey rode an inspired race in the first moto after crashing on the first lap and working his way up through the pack to finish fourth. He came back in round two and improved to third, which in turn guaranteed him third overall. Sellards led every lap of the 250cc B motos for the overall win, while Charlie Dunaway, who finished third in the 125cc B bout, came away with second overall after posting consistent 2-3 moto B AlIA Regional Dirt Track Series Round 5 Pegram goes down in Ohio (Top) HondII of Troy's Mike Brown (26) took home the big bucks lit the Kawesakl Volunteer MX Championships lit Muddy C k. Speedway to take the 750cc Expert-clasa win In front of Steve Morehead (42) and Georgie Price IV (71). By Bert Shepard "I 34 ORRVILLE, OH, JUNE 23 watched the 600 guys and I went really low on the warm-up lap - I just kept going lower and lower." The bottom of Ohio's Buckeye Speedway was the key for Larry Pegram as he' kept Steve Morehead and George Roeder at bay for his first 750 Expert-class win in Ohio in 1995. And in the same vein, Kevin Varnes took it down in the 600cc Expert main to win by over four seconds, while in the 250cc Pro-Am division, Garth Bastin charged ahead in the last moments to take the win, ,With all the big names participating, the 750 main looked more like a National than a' regional event. Starting on the front row, Pegram held the inside pole position with Morehead, Georgie Price IV, Roeder, Jason fletcher and Joe Kopp lined up to his right. The race was a follow-the-lead.er affair with Pegram holding the head of the line, while Morehead and the field waited for a mistake that would never come. The LA Racing/Team Powell/ Workman's H-D/Sponsellor Racing/ Arai/DID/ELF/Motion Pro XR750 was up to the task and never faltered, Roeder was patient in third place ahead of Price and Fletcher, Kevin Varnes, Brent Armbruster and Ken Coolbeth kept things moving quickly as they won front row starts in the 600 Expert final. Kevin Varnes put the USC/Johnny and Sara Goad/Penn State Cycle/Shoei/KK Supply/Chico-backed Rotax on the outside pole for the 600 Expert main and Varnes' only problem would be an ever-persistent Doug O'Boyle. The Michigan rider led for the first lap before giving in to Varnes, who would win going away, Armbruster held down the show position as the field headed toward the crossed flags, but Ken Coolbeth marched through the field in an effort that allowed him to take third from Armbruster when the laps ran out. The qualifiers for the 250 Pro-Am division were won by Garth Bastin and Tim Eades. finishes. Brian Stone cashed in on third overall, despite a disappointing sixth in the first moto. He more than made up for that in the second moto by finishing a strong second. After- finishing. second to Sellards in the 12Sec B class, Horton salvaged a win in the Schoolboy class, posting a perfect 1-1 score. His ride was even more impressive when you take into account his main foe - Ricky Carmichael, who was aboard a smaller Kawasaki KXl00. Despite the slight power disadvantage, Carmichael nipped at Horton's heels in both motos but came liP a wheel short each time. Carmichael did cruise to victory in the Super and Senior classes, though. No surprises here. Jeff Gibson was Carmichael's nearest opponent in both classes, taking runner-up honors both times. A $6000 purse was up for grabs in the Pro (A) classes, and it was none other than Muddy Creek's own Mike Brown taking home the lion's share. The Honda of Troy pilot scored wins in both the 125 and 250cc A classes. In the 125cc class, Brown outran Jim Chester and Billy Whitley to the checkered flag, while in the quarter-liter class, he finished ahead of former GP rider Billy Liles and Paul Currie. Liles also finished second in the 25+ A class, one spot behind Kevin Walker, and he scored the overall win in the 30+ class. I:N Resulta so (406): 1. Chase Beck (LEM); 2. Cory Strickland (KTM); 3.
