Dick Mann called the Cycle News offices on Monday, July 17 to remind us that the AHRMA NorCal Series will be back in action on July 22-23 in Carson City, Nevada. "This year the swap meet has moved to a different facility and will be held at Fuji Park on the 22nd, with the motocross the following day at Silver State Raceway," Mann said. "I think we'll have a real good track." The Second Annual North Carolina State Harley Owners Group (HOG) Rally will take place in Asheboro, North Carolina, on August 18-20 with the AMA/MARS Tarheel State Championshjp Half-Mile kicking things off on August 18. MARS is offering a $17,500 purse for the Friday night race. In memory of dirt track Rodney Farris, Paul Crurnling, of Pro-Plates International, says he'll send anyone a free #92 sticker who sends in a self-addressed, stamped envelope to Pro-Plates, Dept. #92, P.O. Box 911, Mt. Wolf, Pennsylvania, 17347. He will not accept phone requests for the stickers. Carl Fogarty's first race win in the World Superbike Series round in Salzburg, Austria, on July 9 marked the 100th victory in World Superbike racing by Ducati. Desert racer Don Griewe broke his hip socket on July 13 while testing 1996 ATK prototypes. Griewe hit another motorcycle head-on and he was scheduled to have reconstructive surgery on July 17. A Mark Gleckl Memorial Practice Day will be held on Tuesday, August 1 from 3 p.m. to dusk at Perris Raceway in Perris, California. The $25 donation (per rider) will go to the GIeck] Fund. Gleckl was killed recently while videotaping a truck race in the Mohave Desert. He is survived by his wife, Maria, and two small children, Amy and Anthony. It's official: The N alions Grand Prix, which replaces the canceled United States Grand Prix on the World Championship Road Race Series calendar, will be held on September 3--in Monza, Italy. The Monza round will be the 12th round in the 14-race series. dP Safety Schools will hold a session at Sears Point Raceway in Sonoma, California, the day after the AMA Superbike National Championship round, on August 28. Vohland wins Venezuelan 250cc MX GP A Californian Al Salaverria will race a Ducati 916 in the World Superbike Series round at Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey, California, on July 22-23. Sala verria' s effort will be backed by Gia.CaMoto, JP and CorseMoto.Racing. merican Tallon Vohland (left), of the JHK Kawasaki team, scored the overall win at the MX 250cc GP in Maracay, Venezuela on July 16. It was his first overall GP victory of his career, and it came after finishing second to Belgian Marnicq Bervoets, of the Bieffe Suzuki team, in the first moto and winning the second. Bervoets dropped back to fifth in the second moto and settled for third overall. . Suzuki-mounted Pit Beirer, of Germany, landed second overall via consistent 3-2 moto finishes, while series points leader Stefan Everts, Vohland's teammate, finished fourth overall after posting 4-3 moto finishes. Rounding out the top five was Frenchman Frederic Bolley of the Chesterfield Yamaha team. Bolley went 7-6 on the day. Despite winning, Vohland, who hails from Sacramento, California, still trails the Belgian, Everts, in the series standings by 32 points, 308276. Bervoets is third just four points behind Vohland. There is now another short break in the series before racing resumes July 30 in Poland. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) voted unanimously on July 10 to terminate a 1954 consent order against Harley-Davidson Motor Co. The consent order settled charges that the company violated anti-trust laws by requiring its dealers to sell only Harley-branded motorcycles, parts and accessories. Under its July 1994 sunsetting policy, FTC determined that it is "in the public interest" to terminate such orders if they are more than 20 years old, provided there is no evidence that the order has been violated. In our coverage of the July 15 Hagerstown Half Mile Grand National, we mentioned the Rodney Farris commemorative stickers that the racers ran on their helmets. Pro Plates, the manufacturer of the majority of the Grand National competitors' number plates, makes the stickers. And though Englishman Graham Jarvis is already committed to compete aboard a Scorpa for at least two more years, the factory is looking to sign a top-level rider to contest the new machine. Former World Champion Tommi Ahvala has been speaking with the folks at Scorpa, and is rumored to be unhappy with his current situation at Fantic. Beta is also rumored to have been wooing Ahvala. Expect to see Jordi Tarres and Marc Colomer to stay right where they are - with the Gas Gas and Montesa factories, respectively. Japanese upstart Kenichi Kuroyama will be one of the hottest properties of the off-season, and some expect him to take the place of Takurni Narita on the factory Beta squad. Narita is expected to return to the AllJapan Trials Championship Series in '96. The Total Control Racing Team had a new member at the Hagerstown Half Mile. No, not a third rider, but an additional helper in the pits. Two-time Grand National Champion Gary Nixon has joined the Michigan-based team, and will accompany the TCR squad to the majority of the remaining '95 races. "Tom Cummings called me' and asked if I'd like to get involved," said Nixon. "He flew me out, and I'll basically be the emergency driver, time keeper and whatever else needs to be done." Hot off the trials rumor mill: John Dickinson, our man on the World Championship Trials Series scene, reports that several juicy rumors are floating around the pits. Scarpa, the French trials motorcycle manufacturer, is reportedly set to unveil an all-new machine in '96.
