Paul Hill Brown collects Castle Rock TT win By Clay Ught CASTLE ROCK, WA, JUNE 9 Charlie Brown conquered Dan Stanley and several other Expert riders to pick up his first big win of the year, cheered on by his hometown fans at Castle Rock fairgrounds. Brown won his heat race and grabbed the lead in the Expert main event, putting his Rotax out fron.! for keeps. Not even the incredibly rough track or fellow veterans Chris Fitzhugh and Troy Rose could slow Brown down on this particular night, as Brown used his MX skills to manhandle the 12-rider fieleL In the Pro-Am class, jason Burchette jumped in &ont at the start, but his lead lasted only until he fell prey to Randy Patterson on the second lap. Patterson has won nearly every Pro-Am final this season, and he went on to notch yet another win on this night. Second place went to Bruce Series, while Burchette finished third 'ahead of new Pro-Am rider Christian Vernon. Results EX: I. Charlie Brown (Rtx); 2. Chris Fitzhugh (Rtx); 3. Troy ~(Rtx). P~AM: I. Venegas back on top at . Speedway USA By Michael Maher VICIURVILLE, CA, JULY I Alter watching Bobby Schwartz come back and steal his thunder during the middle of tlie Speedway USA season, Charlie "The Edge" Venegas finally bested Schwartz in the Scratch main at the high-desertvenue. The Rock N java/Motion Pro/Oilzall/ Shoei/PaTtain's Transmission Specialties-backed Venegas beat Schwartz at his own game, with a lightning start to pull himself back into the Scratch main--event winner's circle. Schwartz has turned quick starts into an art form, but on this night Venegas got the holeshot and never looked back while Schwartz was right at his heels. Venegas held on, despite Schwartz's best efforts, and took the win over Schwartz, Steve Lucero and john Aden. The Handicap main was a bizarre one that saw David Taylor take the lead over Jason Chism. Walt Farnum, Schwartz, and Aden with the riders spared out in such a way that no one was really in striking distance of anyone else. Just when it looked like the race would be a real nose-picker, Taylor went down, collecting Farnum, Aden and Schwartz, and bringing out the red flag. On the restart with two laps to go, Chism led Farnum, Schwartz and Aden. Farnum bobbled momentarily on the beginning of the final lap and both Schwartz and .Aden took to the infield in avoidance with Aden's bike throwing its rider over the handlebars and onto his face. Chism took the win over Farnum with Schwartz crossing the line for third, but Schwartz was disqualified for riding through the infield despite his protest that he and Aden had done so to avoid Farnum. The final order: Chism, Farnum, Gary Ackroyd, Taylor, Aden and Schwartz. The support class main event went fairly smoothly as Tony Wood fended off a c!>allenge by Richard Proger to take the win. In the Beginner main, Brian Thompson cruised home the winner. The Junior saw Jimmy Fishback and Patrick"Awesome Ace" Donovan captured the First and Second division honors, respectively.
