The 1993 title holder is a distant seventh in the standings with four GPs to run. Leading title candidates Joel Smets and Trampas Parker remained divided by a slender six points after very different days. Smets won the first moto by four seconds from a charging Martens, and led race two until the motor sucked in sand four laps from the checkered flag. Parker found himself at a disadvantage off the gate in the sand, going and early falls pushed him farther back. He regained places quickly in the first half of each moto, but each time the leaders were long gone and he had to settle for sixth place. Peter Johansson moved into a challenging third in the standings with second overall to Martens, but third Husky factory rider Johan Boonen was once again struck down by misfortune; he broke a rear wheel after leading the opener for 25 minutes, then got a face full of gas in race two when, in a repeat of his French GP adventures, the filler cap flew off. Mike Young sat {lut the race to rest his injured knee. 0 j ENTRY FEE $30.00 includes gate fee (additional classes $20.00) TARTS Irish GP Ballykelly, NortMm Inlland Results: July 1, 1995 MOTO 1; 1.
