Italian Alessandro puzar (Hon) saw his
points lead nearly cut in half at the 125cc
MX GP in Bargo Maggiore, San Marino,
on July 2. Fellow Italian Alessio Chiodi
(Yam) went 2-1 on the day for the overall
win while puzar went 13-5 and, as a
result, Chiodi cut Puzar's 50-point cushion going into the event down to just 27
points, 272-245. Finishing third overall
was Frenchman Sebastien Tortelli
(Kaw) who won the first moto and finished second·in the other. Rounding out
the top five overall were Italian riders
Claudio Federici (Yam) and Massimo
Bartolini (TM). American Jimmy Button
(Hon) competed in San Marino but a
groin injury suffered at a supercross race
in France the previous week hampered
his efforts; he posted an ll-DNF for the
day. Button is currently fifth in the series
standings, but is well off Puzar's pace.
At the lrish SOOcc MX GP in Ballykelly,
Northern Ireland, on July 2, former
champ Jacky Martens (Hus) scored his
second win of the season after posting 21 moto finishes. Series points leader Joel
Smets
