Thanks from the creator This year marks the- 25th anniversary of EI Trial de Espana, an event which I founded with tremendous help from trials riders in Southern California and around the nation, the motorcycle industry and press, as well as the Montesa, Bultaco and Ossa motorcycle factories: Cycle News, too, was a supporter and contributor to the original ETdE. During this past quarter century, ETdE has grown in popularity, which only reflects growth of trials worldwide. I have long since turned the reins of ETdE over to others. And through a succession of chiefs, the event's goals and mission have remained true. My thanks to everyone who has ever helped sponsor, organize, or run one of the ETdE events over these past 25 years. I'd also like to take this opportuni ty, on behalf of trials enthusiasts everywhere, to thank Cycle News, not only for its coverage and support of ETdE over the years, but to the space you've devoted to trials worldwide. Your coverage of our sport, your photography and accurate reportmg, continues to put you at the forefront of journalistic sources among knowledgeable enthusiasts. A quarter of a century later, you're still there for us, doing excellent work. Keep it up. And again, thank you. . Fred Belair West Covina, CA All hail Hale Great interview with Mike Hale. A little too early to put him on the rostnun of a 500cc World Grand Prix, but as a longtime fan of road racing, I can only hope he lives up to his early display of potential. Actually, he seems a little too good to be true. Let's see, strong family relati?nships, obvious talent, good looks, no hint of overt ego problems, honors his contracts and commitments? He doesn't sound like the average top-level racer of today, and is in stark contrast with our last great road racing phenom, John Kocinski. As I said, I hope Hale has the talent to succeed in the GPs because with the departure of Kevin Schwantz, we could sure use a class act like him to root for.
