After missing the first few weeks of the 1995
Speedway USA season, Bobby "Boogaloo'
Schwartz returned to the high desert track with
a vengance as he captured victory in the Scratch
main event, winning one of the most competitive and exciting main events of the year so far.
The lineup for the sq-atch main was impressive as Schwartz faced off against Gary Hicks,
local hero john Aden and Charlie Venegas, who
was shooting for his fourth straight scratch main
victory. Schwartz got the jump on the start, but
Aden and Venegas hung on, shadowing the
two-time National Champion and making
numerous attempts to pass. Schwartz repelled
all competitors' efforts and crossed the finish
line inches ahead of Venegas and Aden while
Hicks went d.own and missed out on the dose
finish.
The Handicap main event got off to a scary
start as jerry Black lost control and went into the
wall, catching Greg Ayers in the process. Both
riders hit hard but both were okay and able to
make the restart. Randy Evans then got the
holeshot on the field. While Andy Northrup
moved into second and made a few attempts to
pass, Evans held him off and took the victory
with Northrup second, Schwartz third, Aden
fourth, Black fifth and Ayers ending with sixth
spot.
Tony Wood won the Support class main but
the star of the race was Mike Dalbey as he came
from the high yardage to dispatch the field one
by one to move into second behind Wood, coming up just short as Wood took the checkered
flag.
David Lynch led all but the most important
lap in the Support Beginner main event as he
took the lead off the start a.nd appeared headed
to victory until Sydney Payne caught and
passed him in the last comer of the last lap and

of the day, taking home the gold in three classes
with wins in the 125, 250cc and 25+ Expert races.
John Schneider - another New jersey rider was the only other double winner, topping the
250cc Amateur and Coupe De L'avenir classes.
He also took second in the 12Scc Amateur class
behind Billy Snook.
Eighty-six 12Scc Novice riders showed up to
do battle for the classic honors with Shane Harris, Tim Haddle and Rodney Allen each winning
a qualifier for the main.
Chad Klock took his Honda to point in the
main with Harris in second, followed by Ron
Hires, Tony Pedone and David Drake.
Harris was on the gas and took over the lead
early in lap two, with Pedone tagging along into
second. Tim Haddle put his Yamalla into third,
with Drake holding fourth and Tom Hamilton
worked up to fifth.
Harris pulled a good lead, wiU, Pedone and
Haddle swapping the runner-up spot. Harris
held on to take the win and the overall. Pedone
took second, but it was only good enough for
third overall as Haddle's 1-3 mota finishes gave
him second overall. Ron Hires and Scott Hilton
rounded out the top five.
Carsten took his Suzuki to the front of the
pack in the first 12Scc Expert mota, shadowed
by jerry Seip, 1y Wallace, Keith Tnoccoli, Bruce
Stratton and Scott Rockwell.
Carsten built a nice lead, with the battle
being for the top five spots. Wallace took over
second from Seip, and jimmy MclJvane and Eric
Reilly moved into the top five as a crash took
out Rockwell and Stratton.
Carsten was on the gas and led the way to
the checkers for a start-to-finish win. Wallace
fought off Rilley for second with Selp, Carlo
Coen and MclJvane taking the top six places in
the 38-bike field.
Mota two found Carsten again holO5hotting
with Wallace second followed by Coen Stratton,
Seip and MclJvane.
Wallace and Carsten engaged in one of their
classic duels but it was Carsten all the way with
another win and the overall. Wallace held on for
second, followed by Stratton, Coen, Reilly and
Dag Boyesen.
