.R AD·R E.:·· O AC :. AM uperbike National Championship .. AS Round 6: New Hampshire International Speedway New Hampshir e International Speedway Loudon, New Hampshire Results: June 18, 1995 (Above) Mike Hale rode brave ly to finish fifth des pite his Injuries; he was hounded through out by Steve Crevier, who worked his way past in the late stages of the race to get fourth . (Left) Miguel DuHamel wasn't alone much, but he was when it counted most - at the finish of the Superbike National. 8 happy; he's on cloud nin e right now . It's a nice Fath er's Day gift for my dad." Kipp was happy with w hat was his best-ever result in a Superbike National. "It was a reall y fantastic race. We had a good setup this morning. We went out with a full tank of gas and our race tires and I think we had the fastest times. I rea lly thought we were going to win it. I had some really good confidence going. I just fel t really at ea se with how the race was going to go. I had to get off to a good start - which I didn' t. I wa s able to charge through and lead the race a few times. Ten or 12 laps toward the end of th e race, it would cut out eac h time I shifted gea rs, but o v er a ll the bike worked good." " It was pretty g ood," Smith sa id . "There was a little bit of shuffling going on . I wanted to lead the beginning of it but I didn't get a good start. I'm glad it got a little bit cooler on us . I tried to take a little lead, and looked back and saw Tom there. I rode as consisten t a race as I could. I put it in the comers as hard as I could put it in there and tried to go a little faster every lap, without throwing it up the road . I learned a little bit more like I did at Elkhart. I think the suspension may have overheated a little bit ." While Kipp and Smith would take their battle to the flag, only Hale and Crevier were left to fight behind them. Crevier finally moved around the bat tered Ha le on the 36th lap, outbraking the Texan into tum three. "Getting b y Hale w as ve ry hard," Crevier said later. "He' s so r e, a n d I could see that when it slid and hooked up he was in pain. I rode as hard as I could sensibly. He (Hale) rode a go od race and he blocked the right lines. It's too bad I couldn 't g et around him because I think I could have gone with Miguel (Dul-lamel).' Hale concurred with his strategy on Crevier: "As the race wore on I got more and more worn down," Hale said. "That was the toughest race I've ridden. Crevier got me in traffic . He was quicker than I was. I wa s guarding my lines, making it even tougher to pass. I tried to run it back under him, but I'd about lost all my fight holding him off." Merkel and Jacks rode relatively lonely races to sixth and seventh, with Jacks gaining ground, then losin g ground mo st notably when he ran wide in tum three in the middle of the race. With Spencer movin g past late in the race, Chandler was content his best-ever Harley finis h in nin th and Carr en ded up 10th - his first-ever top 10 finish in an AMA Superbike National in what is his rookie season of road racin g. a .. . :Briefl' SUPERBIK E Q UA LIFYI N G: 1.
