When the w hite flag flew Smith had not only mad e up the dis tance passing riders inside an d out, but had managed to pu t a n extra 10 lengt hs on the field for the checkered flag. Heat tw o saw Mike Robinson bla st off th e line at the gree n light and nev er look back , finishing the hea t in style with a confident wheelie at the wire. Heat th ree wa s a ca ke walk for Po lka Dot Club member Dean Mayer . who would ha ve to wait for the Combo cla ss before getting cha llcn ged in any race and won the heat handily. Mayer would duplicate his win in the final with his closest challenger. Chuck Smith. nev er co m ing any closer th a n six lengths behind Mayer's rear wheel. Daniel Fortner. Lyle Barber and Brad O'Boyle rounded out the top five. JUNE 4 After spending much of the past several months successfully racing in Northern California, Beau Brown re tu mt.>d to the Northwest and stormed away with a 125cc and 250cc class win at the sec~ ond race of the Diamond Racewa y Short Track Series . Kawasaki·mounted Brown won both heat ra ces in 125cc action to sit in po le position for the A mai n.
