"I go t the start but w hen we went
over to the far side it was rea lly we t and
slick," said Brown. "I was tryin g to get
to an outside berm bu t as I was goi ng
ov er my fron t en d washed ou t a nd I
went d own . After that I jus t rode my
hard est to catch back up. " So hard that
Brown fell once again and still managed
to make it back to second.
Ferry was forced to deal with a 12th
pla ce start, but, on ce again, Huffm an
and Reyn ard were ev en further back,
neither of w hom was able to get off the
gate all afternoon.
"I go t all tangl ed with so m eone in
th e first turn and that reall y cost me,"
said Ferry . "I passed about 10 guys right
awa y but then I slid out and lost all my
dri ve right there. It was hard after that. "
Ferr y wou ld clim b as hi gh as six t h,
th ough o n the ve ry last lap he w as
pa ssed by privateer Scott Sheak, who
put in a remarkable ride while passing
Ferry and at the same time holding off
Huffman, who finished eighth. Reynard
put in an even better comeback, moving
a ll the w a y up to fourth before th e
checkered flag came out.
Up front Lamson led Pichon unti l the
Fr enchm an fell in the o pen ing laps,
leaving second to Hughes and third to
Wind ham. But w it hi n jus t a few la ps
Brown was rig h t back up in third and
m o ving away from Picho n. He took
over seco nd w hen Hughes fell on the
fifth la p w hile chasing Lamson. That
wo uld effectively close out the p assing
in the lead th ree pos itions, tho ug h
Pichon started to get close to Brown and Brown in turn close to Lamson - as
the race ended.
"I rode hard and just waited for the
end ," said Lamson of his triumphant
fina l moto. "My hands started to get a
little sore at the end but I just held on. I
d id n't care if my palms go t torn up or
not as long as I could just hold on."
"I just wa nt to hang in there, be consistent every race and hopefully win it,"
sai d th e 23-yea r-o ld Brown of his title
chances. "I figure I have just as good a
chance as anyone else."
"I'm only four point ou t of first and I
had a bad mo to, so that's not too bad a
day," sai d Ferry. "Th is isn 't my best
track , so I can't really co m plai n to o
mu ch."
"I was cat ching Brown at the end bu t
he fell two times, so I am not so happy
abou t my da y," said Picho n, w ho still
moved withi n five po ints of the points
lead. "All the time it is the same, I get a
good start and I get tired and fade back.
When I get a bad start I go very good at
the end. Maybe it's because with a good
sta rt I rid e very slow at the beginning
and I can not find my rhythm. It is the
o ppos ite with a bad start becau se I try
so much harder. I'm just not very happy
with today. I know I can win this championship:'
"I had problems with my sta rts all
day and this is a hard track to pass on,"
said H uffman. "It's hard to go mu ch
faster th an an other gu y. I just d id my
best and I rod e hard in both moto s, but
bad starts really hurt you on this track: '
"I've really got to spend some time
on my starts or something," said Reynard, w ho rode hard in both motos to
recover from his terrible starts. "I got a
litt le pumped in the first moto but the
second mo to I di dn't get tired at all . I
feel good abou t the poin ts but my starts
need help : '
