His bike just works really well in turns like that where it's all throttle control." For six laps Emig led, followed closely by McGrath, Albertyn, LaRocco , Bradshaw and OeHoop. But 'going up the huge double jump s tr aigh ta w ay McGra th go t a better drive out of the corner and was ab le to out-jump Emig at the top of the hill. By this time Albertyn had joined the fight for the lead , but the three-time World champ was not going to get hung up behind Emig as he did before. Just one lap after McG~ath took the lead he followed Emig to the ou tside up the long finish line sweeper and then slammed him in the following hairpin corner. "It was a bit of a do-o r-d ie man eu ver but I can' t keep letting Emig think he can hold me back all the time," said Albertyn. "Hopefully he will have a little bit more respect for me from now on." "I didn' t think he had enough roo m to d o that bu t evidently I was wrong," sa id Emig. "I never sho ul d 've been in that race wit h him. I should 've p ulled away, but I just did n' t have it in the first part of the race. I'm just basically really disappointed wi th my ride tod ay." The incide nt also allowed LaRocco to m o ve past Emig, a pass th at Em ig would not be able to retaliate. In the e n d McGrath cro ss ed the checkered with the victory , whi le Albertyn was a very close second and a disap point ed Emig third. LaRocco barel y held o ff Brad sha w for fo ur t h w h ile. Kiedrowski rode to a qui et sixth. • " I felt good th e whole time," said McGrath , wh o was onl y slowed by a terrible blister in th e palm of his hand. "I got Emig right away but he got me back and I e nded up rid ing his p ac e fo r awhile. I learned his lines and moved back past h'im a nd th en jus t m o ved away. I feel so stro ng right now. I think a lot of this is mental. I'm learning more and Skip (Norfolk) has my bike working real good . I'm stoked about getting the big points lead." "I w as having problems with m y arms pumping up right off the start, so I s pen t m ost of th e d a y jus t tr y in g to relax," said Emig. "I was tryin g to relax rathe r than charge to the front." "I just d idn't have the strength in the second rnoto," ad mit ted LaRocco, who still finis hed fourth. "I'm not real happy with my second mot o a t all. My w ris t gets a little wea k at the end of the day after I rid e, but I didn' t know how it wou ld be u nd er race conditions, I didn' t ha ve much pain tod a y, I just wasn' t strong at the end." As far as the championship goes , LaRocco said that he was be in g r ea listi c about h is cha nc es . "There's a prayer there, but not much. I d idn't come back thinking that I can win it easily. The field is dee per than it was last year. It will be really hard to mak e all the those points back up." " I ha d a bad s ta r t again and jus t wo rked my way up to sixth in the second moto," said Kiedrowski. "There just was n't any places to really make up any time- here. There's not a lot of technical stu ff ou t there." "I felt a lot better than I did the first race back," said Brad shaw after putting a pair o f fifth -pl ac e fin ishes . " I fe lt stronger even though I got a little tired towards the end . My speed is still there and I've made progress since Mt. Morris. My goal tod ay was to be in the race (for the lead) and have two good solid motos. I tried to give it 110% and I feel like I did a good job. I'm satisfied With this progress." Round 4: Budds Creek Raceway 125 NATIONAL Brown and privateer Honda rider Chad Pederson shared the ho leshot at the start of the first 125cc moto but within a lap Brown was fighting off Suzuki's Ferry in a rep lay of their Hangtown and High Point duels. Lamson, Ryan Hughes, Yamaha 's Kevin Windham and New Englander privateer Tony Lorusso were also in the early chase while Kawasaki's Robbie Reynard and Suzuki's Huffman were mired at mid pack. For more than half the race Brown led Ferry, while Hughes and Lamson stayed within striking distance. However, with 10 minutes to go, Ferry made a dash past Brown for the lead at almo st the same moment that Lamson ru shed by Hughes for third. While Ferry pulled away from a suddenly fading Brown, Lamson got the Honda rider in his sights and set up a pass of his own with two laps to go. Hughes, meanwhile, was falling backwards through the field, losin g spots to ' fellow Kawasaki riders Pichon and Reynard before the race was complete. Huffman ended u p seventh, followed by Windham, Lorusso and Pederson. "I felt real good and I had a good start," said Ferry. "Once I got by Brown I really took off. He was kind of holding me up but after that I rode my own pace a nd it was pretty easy. The last three laps I was ju st tr ying not to use too much energy." Ferry ended up winning by about five seconds over Lamson, while Brown fended off a late-charging Pichon and Reynard for third place points. "I just worked my way up to second because I knew that from there I could get the overall, " said Lamson of his first moto strategy. "I was stoked because I rode hard and I didn't feel tired at the end." Holeshot master Brown again beat everyone to the first turn in race two , followed by Lamson and Pichon. However, he went down on the first lap and lost six positions. Triumph is back.
