'W e'll run a couple of practic e laps,
and if the rid ers feel it's safe enough to
compete on , we'll go on With the show,"
said AMA referee Ron Crandal. "Most of
the riders have said that they're used to

The start of the LCQ " saw Healey,
Dement and Palmer in the spotlight, as
they led the rest of the field. Dement executed a picture-perfect bl ock pass on
Healey to take the lead, while a lap later,
Palmer stuffed Healey for third . Dement
wen t on to tak e th e win, while Palmer
kept Healey at bay to grab the final transfer position of the nigh t.
The main event got underway shortly after the 125cc main minus McGrath,

in the race before breaking away and

like a man who ha d ju st won his first

The 125cc feature came d own to a
last-lap , d o or die battle between Team

"Da mon rode a great race," sai d
Hughes . "I had a little problem with the
lapper s but I just tried ridin g smooth .
After that first whoop section I knew I
jus t had to ride smooth in th e second
section . It was a weird deal with th e

track. With the lights it (the outcome of
the 125cc race) could'v e been different."
Hughes also said that he was dedicating hi s win to o ff- roa d racer Danny
Hamel wh o was killed competing in the
Baja 500.
"I got pinched out in the first turn and
I didn't think I could catch him," sa id
Huffman. "I would like to think that if it
was 15 lap s I would've won."
Pingree held on to finish third and
was perhaps glad to see the race short ened. "I've been sick all day," said Pingree . "I've got strep throat or something,
felt terrible all day and got win ded right
away."
