125cc race was won by Emilio Alzamora (H on ), Kurtis Roberts, the so n of three-time World Champ ion Kenny Rob erts, crashed out of the 250cc class on th e 26th of 30 laps. A Danny Hamel Memorial Fund ha s been established with the Boulder City Federal Credit Un ion, in Boulder City, Nevada . Lou Peralta, president of Baja Promotions /BP Racing, says he has received th e okay at a City Council meeting in California City, California, to run the inaugural Ca li fo rni a ,City Midnight Romp 150 off-road team race, on July 14-16. The actual race date will be Jul y 15, and will feature two laps around an approximately 150-mile course that will be located on the outskirts of the city of California City and will us e 100 percent designated Cal-City streets, though the stree ts are nothing more than dirttrails. Th e more unique aspect of the race is that it will start at 4:00 p.m. , then, at 7:00 p .m ., four-wheel ca rs a nd trucks will ta ke to th e cou rs e, competing thre e times around the track. Pre-running will be allowed th e week bef ore the ra ce. There will also be a racer 's golf tournament held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 14. The FIM ha s taken away th e p oints scored by Swede Joak im Karlsson in the Spanish 250cc Motocross Grand Prix and Belgian Marnicq Berv o ets in th e Dutch 250cc MX GP after fuel samples taken from the riders' machines at those races proved to be not compatible with the 1995 FIM fuel regulations. Karlsson's BP fuel failed to meet the FIM parameters regard in g constitutions of saturates and aromatics as well as in evaporatio n ra tes, w h il e Bervoets' Burmah fuel had traces of lead. Neither rider is believed to have consciously used fuel outside the regulations, but the reconvened [urys of the two GPs had no alternative but to disqualify the riders as required by FIM regulations. Both riders have the right of appeal to a higher court . They must also pay back th e prize money th e y earned at the respective races . All riders finishing behind Karlsson in Spain (seventh in moto one and 'ninth in moto two) and Bervoets in Holland (11th in race one) June 3 San Jose Supercross. Brian Deegan was the most successful, turning in a seven th-p lace finis h in the 125cc "class mai n, and a 13th in the 250cc race. Rusty Holland also qua lified for both main events, but cra shed out of the 25 0cc main after finishing 10th aboard his 125. The North Am erican Super Bike Series (NASB) has announced a new titl e for it s 125cc GP class. Originally called Grand Prix Lights, the class ha s been renamed International Grand Prix presented by Moto Lib erty. Moto Liberty, a Te xa s-based im p o rter of H o n da's RSl25 rac e machin es, recently reache d an agreement with the racing organization to su pport the class. The class Will d ebut at the next round in th e NASB Series ; sch ed ul ed for the w eekend of August 4-6 at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisco nsin. Additional races in the 1995 series w ill be contested at Road Atlanta on September 15-1 7, N ew Hampshire International Spe edway on October 6-8 and Daytona International Speedway on October 20-22. Though not a favorite contractual clause for many factory riders, something can be said for matching team riding gear. As each team was introduced during o pen in g ce re m o ni es a t the San Jose Supercross, the riders rode slowly onto th e track and parked on various track obstacles. The teams with all of its riders dressed identically - Honda /1 -800-Col leer/Pox, Splitfire/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki , KTM , H onda o f Tro y and N oleen /Sizzler / Yamaha - h ad more presenc e than the mi smatched Suzuki, Yama h a and N orth County Ya ma ha squ ad s. Team Kawasaki couldn't look mismatched, as Mike Kiedrowski was the only factory rider in attendance. Speaking of the NASB, Patrick Murphy, NASB ma rketin g d irect or, says th ey hav e reached a sponsorship agreement tha t will keep the Harley-Davidson Twin Sports Series titl e ali ve for th e 1995 racing season. Twin Sports, a class dedicated to H arl ey's 883cc Sp ortster mod el, was created in 1989 as part of the Ch ampionship Cup Series Pro /Am racing series. In 1990, a title sponsorship was agreed to betw een CCS and the Milwaukee manufa cturer to crea te a national series under the Harley-Da vidson Twin Sport title. The five-race series wil l kick off at Road America on August 4-6. And speaking of,Mike Kiedrowski, the Californian and his Brian Lu nniss-tuned KX250 loo ked quite lonely u nder th e huge Kawasaki semi tent. Mike LaRocco is still on the injured list, and Robbie Reynard only contests the 125cc Eastern Regional races. Before the start of the evening's races a t th e San Jo s e SX, rid ers s ig ned autogra p h sheets and posters for recently injured actor Christopher Reeve, who is reportedly a motocross fan. And how did Jeremy McGrath sign his poster? "To Superman, from Supermac," how else? • Jeff Barbacovi, 26, son of California Racing Club President Jack Barbacovi, died on Ma y 28 due to complications from the injuries he suffered a t Los Angeles Co unty Raceway three weeks earlier. Barbacovi was paralyzed from the neck down on Ma y 7 after breaking his neck while competing a t the high desert fa cili ty. He is survived by hi s wife, Brigid, and daughter, Kel sey, parents, Jack and Carol, sister; Kathy, and broth ers, Tony and Greg. Funeral services for Barbacovi were held on June 1. Factory su pport rider for a day: Though the offi cia l res u lts report that Sha n e Trittler competed aboard a Suzuki, the Dirt Bike Magazine test rider raced out of the Honda of Troy pits. "The magazine is doing an article on the bike," said Trittler, who wore a spare set of Todd DeHoop's team clothing . "The bike is fast, real fast, but it felt weird for the first few laps. I usually ride a Suzuki, and I had to ge t used to the CR. I felt like a nerd for the first "few laps of practice." Trittler was impressive in his heat race and in the early laps of the main, but tangled , with Splitfire /Pro Several riders served double duty at the Circuit /Kawa saki team rider Casey Johnso n and dropped to 18th. Here we go again dept: As is the norm with the Harl ey-Da vidson SuperTwins clas s at AMA National Championship Road Races, 'we got word on Monday afternoon that there had been a disqualification, David Estok. was disqualified from his third-place finish at Mid-Ohio on June 4 for using an illegal carburetor. A World Championship spe edwa y update: American Josh Larsen has withdrawn fro m two more rounds of the World Championship Ind ividual Speedway Series. Larsen will miss the Grands Prix in Austria and Germa n y as the resultant back injury from the crash suffered ea rlier in Germany was much mor e severe than originally diagn osed. Chris M anchest er has withdrawn from the World Longtrack Speedway Champion ship due to com mitmen ts with his Belle Vue Aces team in the British Premier League. The return of Triumph to an AMA Profess ional Series ma y not be far off. Professional hillclimber Scott Everett plans to move from the 540cc class to th e Harl ey-Da vid son-dominated 840cc class aboard a Triumph Triple. Jack Leece of Slic k's Performan ce Serv ices is constructing the machine and re ports that early engin e testing has been promising. " Dyno tests on the new Triu m ph for both rear wh eel horsepower an d torque are extremely im p ressive," Leece said . "N it ro metha ne fuel really brings it to life." Five-tim e AMA Grand Nationa l Champion Scott Parker is among the late entries for the Old Time Newsies dirt track at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds in Dayton, Ohio, on June 10. Parker, who rarely competes outside of the Grand National Championship circuit, will bu tt - heads with National contenders Jay Sp ri n gsteen , Steve Morehead, G eorge Roeder II and Will Davis among others for the record regional purse of $27,500. "We opted for a two-day event because a lot of riders were req uesting a practice day," said NCMRRA President Ken Callahan.
