Price IV taking the win. DPC Racing's
Tommy Colson and Topeka H -D's Philip

fifth -place start. Springsteen finally got by
the two Moroney's pilots at the race's
midpoint.

moved up to a h igh line where I didn't
have to slow down s o much to get
through the co rners," Springsteen said .
"You really have to keep your momentum
up w ith these things . I wasn't sure if I
could catch him, because I was back as far
as fifth, but I just kept p lugging away."
Springsteen.closed in on Wait, and jus t
as he did with Mik e Hacker at the Springfield Mile, the wily veteran pulled off a
la s t-la p pass to steal the win from the

'1 didn't see him coming, then all of a
sudden there he was," Wait said. "H e just
drove right on around."
La ter, Wait learned that a mechanical
problem had also contributed to his
demise.
"The b rake locked up and a fter the
race you couldn' t hard ly push the bike,
but it was still a good run I almost had
that win," said Wait with a w ell-e arned
grin.
