LC BAC • (Right) Motocrosser Ryan Huffman competed in a National Hare Scrambles for the fi rst time and took th ird. (Below) Fifth· place finisher Jason Dahners (19) leads Summerson the motocross section of the course. The pass of the race came during lap six when Huffman, who had caught Mashbir a t the check after Mashbir pit ted, pulled alongs ide him and then proceeded to ju mp over the top of him down the back-side double, taking over third for good . After the race Mashbir just stood in awe shaking his head and wondering, "Who was tha t guy? Man, talk abo ut a total loss of concentration; it just blew me away." By lap seven Smith wa s long gone, leading Summers by over two minutes, w h il e Huffman was four minutes behind Summers, and Mashbir st ood one minute behind Huffman. Rhodes rounded ou t the top five. By the time the while flag had waved, it was all over but the shouting, as Smith came home after completing the ninth and final lap, one minute and 16 seconds ahead of Summers, while Huffman, in his first-ever hare scrambles race finished a happy third. Harte scored the A class win with an impressive ninth overall, passing several of the AA riders, and he was the only A rider not lapped by Smith. Letellier rou nded out the top 10. After the event Smith reflected on the day's activities saying, "This will tighten up the points co nsi d er a bly, it's too bad the AMA sched u led a Na tio nal Cross Country race back east this same weekend. It would' ve been a lot more interesting if more of the top guys could've shown up." Summers, mea nw hile, was content with second . "Scott Plessinger and some of the others have already used u p their two throw-aways; I think it'll be me and Rodney down to the wire for the championship." fN I Monkey Butt Nat iona l HS Rosebu rg , Oregon Results: May 21,1995 O/A: 1.
