in the process, carried the battle away
from Hatch, Cooper and Conner. But
Plessinger and Norton were holding on
stro ng. When the white flag came out
the trio were within 10 seconds of one
another, though Norton had fallen back
slightly after falling .
Throughout the last lap ndrews led
the way, but Norton's frantic charge led
him to the back tire of Plessinger, who
ended up going down in a rutted section. That mad e it Plessinger's turn to
cha rge back into the fight, and by the
time the group was within a few minu tes of. the checkered flag they were all
together again. Then Andrews made a
w ise move on one uphill that was littered with stranded bikes.
"On the last lap when you're ru nn ing
scared you can m a ke a lo t of stupid
moves," said Andrews. "I got nervous,
too, and w hen I got to the spot where
those guys were stuck I just committed
to my line, went as fast as I could and
