Cal Rayborn III put his sta mp of authority on
the new Th underhilI Raceway with a solid win
in the firs t Braki ng Brake Systems Formu la

Despite his unfam iliarity with the track, Rayborn JIJ put his Cycle Gear-backed Kawasaki out

1995 AFM season.
While Rayborn JIJ and Mesa were pulling
away from the field in their race for the lead , the
rest of the fie ld we re engaged in a battle for
third. After grabbing the holeshot on his GSXRl l OO Steve Rapp held on to the position until
Chris Voelker, Sr. drafted past at the end of the
straight. Rapp nea rly held off the advances of
Joe Breit Williams, but Williams and his RC30
seemed perfectly suited to the track at Thunderhill. \\'iIIiams snagged fourth awa y from Rapp,
but the less-experienced Rapp showed hi mse lf
capable of stayin g with the leaders in the AFM's
premier class .
Th e 750cc Su pe rbi ke cla ss g aye Will iam s

By Jay and Sharon Hauser
SANFORD, NC,MAY 7
The Devils Ridge facility in Sanfo rd p layc'll host

Ranker has been taking overall after overall
aboa rd h is Suzuki of Winston-Sal em-backed
RM80 in both the Senior Mini 8Scc 02-15) an d
the Supermini classes of late, and he was ab le to

Ranker took both moto vidories in the 85cc
02-15) class by edging out another Suzuki piloted by Marty Pince, who gave a stro ng effort bu t
just coul d not wo rk up enough speed and had to
settle for seco nd in both motos. The final podium position was filled in by yet another Suzuki
ridden by Nick Robert . Derick Bell was the first
rider to break the Suzuki freight train as he posted a strong ride for the day and took a fourth
over Honda mounted Barry Carpenter.
Roberts and Bell came back to give their best
shot at Ranker in the Super Mini division which
met w ith the same results. Ranker wa s again
u nbeatable as he waltzed to both moto wins.
Ro ber ts scored the second s po t while Bell
rounded out the top three.
