SAN BERNARDINO, CA, MAY3 Bobby Schwartz and Ch arlie Ven egas we re the big w inne rs durin g the ope ning ni ght of th e Glen Helen Speedway season. Venegas wa s very a l home on the big trac k where he cou ld get outside in the dirt and really tum it on. Through a se ries of qualify ing .heat s the six riders ma king it to the main were Fred Ti m be rla ke, Du stin Evarts, Brian Pappalardo. Steve Lucero, JesseFinch an d Ven egas . Timbe rlake got the jump on the field from th e 10 ya rd line to star t the main, b u t Venegas w as on the move from the 70 and he began to slice thr ou gh the field . His first victim was Eva ns. The nex t to fa ll to th e Venegas ons laught was Luce ro and fina lly Pappa la rdo. Th e only thing betwee n Venegas and the win was Timbe rla ke. Sc h w a r tz, who no longe r ch ases the e ntire Sou thern Cal ifornia circuit, had to come through th e Scra tch, but the d raw for the main event sta r tin g positions had Sc hwartz on the pole which he has had more this season than all the othe r riders put toge ther . Aden was in ga te two with Manchester in th ree and Werner and Venegas in four and five. The gate we nt to the fast-starting Schwartz, but Venegas also d roppe d the hamme r and came flying around on the outs ide.
