ADA, OK APR. 9 , Dallas Babcock had to overcome electrical gremlins on his XR750 Har ley as well as eight other ride rs to win the Pro-Twin main event at round four of the Broz Financial Limited / Vintage Classics Vlll Dirt Track Serie at Ada Speed way. s An interm itten t spark was traced to a faulty magneto wire after Babcock's big tw in came to a halt on the second tum of the "Dash for Cash" r ace an d w as q ui ck ly repaired a fter a t rip thro ug h the pits prod uced a couple of conn ectors and so me 12-gau ge wire. While Bab cock pu shed his mount toward the pits, Steve Nichols took adva ntage of the situation to rare by leader Joe Snyd er a nd take the chec kere d fla g . John Pike managed to get by Bob Braunrciter bu t too late to challenge . In the. Pro-twin main, Joe Snyd er mot ored his Yamaha 750 out to a great star t and held off the adv ances of Babcock, Fike and N ichols in the ea rly stage s, but Babcock was ab le to run the lead er down coming out of tu m four at the midway poi nt. Sny de r's tires seemed to be heating u p, a nd he also fe ll prey to Fike and Ja mes Vaught in the closing lap s. With the win, Babcock was able to increase his early season Protwin points lead in VDTRA comp etition . The 250cc vintage class proved a thr iller as Rocky Curry im proved from hi s fo u rth -p lace start to take a last-lap pass for the win over the Yamaha of Sill Walker. Youngsters champion Lost Creek Park Hare Scrambles By Pam Lambert Hicks, Hannah scorch Costa Mesa Speedway By Elaine Jones COSTAMESA, CA.APR. 14 Week tw o of th e regular spee d way .s eason at Costa Mesa saw Cary Hicks keep his win streak alive after winning the Handicap Main during open ing ni ght , Hicks came back and tuok th e Scratch main. After four heats, Hicks squa red off again st Jim Este s, Bobby Schwa rtz and Gary Ackroyd and John Aden . As they lined up for the main , Hicks wh o drew the pole followed by Estes in gate two, Schwartz in thrl. e, and Ade n and Ack" royd in four and five, Hicks read the gate perfectly and got a drop on the field tha t gave him over a bike-length 's lead . He never looked back, and everyone else coul d do nothing more than freigh t-train around the track behi nd him. Estes and Ackro yd battled for third , but Estes was nevcr serious ly ch alle nge d an d collected th e show spot be h ind Hicks and Schwartz. AMITY,AR, AP 2· R. Two local tee nage mo tocrossers surprised the seaso ned Expert hare scrambles competi tors in t he AA class d u rin g round on e of the 1995 Arka nsa s Ha re Scrambles Series a t Lost Creek Park, which drew 100 competitors to com pe te on the six-mile coursc. When the green flag dropped for the start of the first wave, Tony Curti s and Brook Flu ker raced up the pipeline start to the first tum into the wood s. Curtis held a half bike-length adva ntage over Fluker. As the tw o entered the lefthander, the riders bumped and Flu'ker spun out in the powder. While Fluker remounted, the rest of the Expert field disa ppeared in to the woods. Fourteen minu tes later , the AA Expert riders returned to the checkpoint with Curtis holding the lead while Eric Brewer followed. Several unpredictable events occurred in the next two hou rs. Curtis got stuck in a m udholc, Fluker got strea me rs wrapped around his rear sp rocke t, Brew er got ca ugh t behi nd a hu ge pil eup in a mud bog, and all three fell down seve ral times. As the time clock app roached one and a half hours , the positions changed with Fluker takin g ove r the lead from Brewe r after both ride rs had passed Curtis ear lier. Jason Ennis bega n closing on the lead ers an d ove rtook Flu ke r as Flu ker slowed his pa ce in the back straightaway. The Roger 's Cycles/ MSR-backed En nis, and Dunlop / MSR / Scott/ Sprocke t Specialis ts- back ed Fluke r - both 17-ycar-old Expert motocrossers contin ued their fast pace w ith Ennis putting 50 second s on Fluker at the checkp oint before the last lap. Boruff led wire -to-wire in both School boy motes, carv ing a path around the revised Hidden Acres circu it for Suzuki pilots Josh Scott and Brad Edwar d s to follo w . Scott and Edwards traded positions from mota to mota, res ulting in Sco tt 's second o ver all w ith a 3-2 fin is h and Ed wards' third w ith a 2-3. Jeffery Ryan nail ed down fourth on his KXIOO ahead of Georgia's Aar on Lindsey. The first round of 125cc B was not so easy for Boruff as Mit chell Hodges tea med wit h Kurt Sims to squee ze Boruff ou t on the start . The two Kawasaki jocks began to pul l aw ay from Boruff and the rest of the pack when Sims crashed hard an d wa s forced to retu rn to th e pits. Hod ges cruised on, deflecting all challenges from Boruff to take the first mota win, Boru ff and Ho dges once agai n m uscled to the front coming th rough tu m one in the return eng age men t of 12Scc B class. Hodges was blasting along in the lead whe n a miscue on the face of a jump slamm ed h im to t he g ro u n d .
