FIM MOTOGP WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
ROUND 3 / AUGUST 7-9, 2020
AUTOMOTODROM BRNO / BRNO, CZECH REPUBLIC
S
outh Africa's Brad Binder carved
out a slice of MotoGP history
for himself, the Rainbow Nation
of South Africa and Red Bull KTM by
riding to a dominant win in the 2020
Czech Republic MotoGP, held at a
deteriorating Brno circuit.
The third round of the series was
anything but predictable, with Johann
Zarco stealing a thrilling pole position,
the factory Ducatis struggling desper-
ately, no Repsol Hondas to be seen
and a podium that, if you'd put money
on, you'd have made a very tidy sum.
Binder was magnificent. His win
came after storming through from sev-
enth on the grid, disposing of Red Bull
KTM teammate Pol Espargaro, Aprilia's
Aleix Espargaro, Zarco and Petronas
Sprinta teammates Fabio Quartararo
and finally long-time leader Franco Mor-
bidelli with nine laps remaining.
"Honestly, right now, I'm lost for
words," Binder said. "I've dreamt of this
since I was a little boy and today it came
true. It is amazing to win my first GP [in
MotoGP]. Thank you to everybody who
supported me, and the whole team:
they put an insane motorcycle beneath
me today! I didn't know if we could win,
but I knew we would have a go. It was
the craziest 10 laps of my life at the end.
I was being as soft as I could. It was
incredible. Unbelievable."
Morbidelli held on for a career-first
MotoGP podium in second with Zarco in
