races each year because that is what our manufacturers and that's what our television calls for, then we'd better d o it. If we don't, Superbike rac ing will be hurt. We have the rights to prom ote on several tra cks , several of the tracks that w ere set out in the sched ule. H ave yo u considered promoting a race at Road Atlanta? The o n ly co m m u ni catio n I re ce ived fr om Road Atl an ta is that they d idn't wi sh to d o b u sin ess w ith u s . If the y call ed m e a n d s ai d th at th ey n o w wished to d o bu siness with us, I'd su rely consider it. Th e Road Atlanta situat ion w a s unu su a l in th a t Roger Edmondson wa s a prom ot er there, but we h ave not precluded anybody . We ha ve listened to any body who ha s called us . We're not vindictive people and not in an y w a y th e kind of people who would refuse to do business with an yone as long as it is in the best interes t of our fans and our riders and the people that w e serve. Obviously time is· getting ver y sho rt for on e. Number two, we have solid ified in th e last few weeks so me legal positions with so me o f these replacement tracks, and people ha ve to realize we jus t keep br eak in g con tracts to people be cause somebody wants to come back in . Tha t's not fair either. It's co st u s a great deal of m on ey for deposits on tracks, and w e have spent a lot of money on attorneys to draw up different contracts, so it has not been a pleasant or inexpensive experience to us at all . Seve ra l of the original renta l ve n ues cou ld b e v i ew ed as s u bst and ard Iaci lities.; Well, I've hea rd that people call th em substandard. They may be subs tandard today, I know the y will not be substandard - at least as far as sa fety goes when we run a race on that track. I will assure you of that. We've had Ron Barrick and Merrill Vandersl ice a t every facility - even though people have written that they have not been there. They have been there, I've been to the facilities myself, people have w ritten that we have ne ver se en Las Vegas. I was at Vegas the week before we made the deal with Vega s. Now that d oesn ' t mean we're going to Las Vegas, there are some friends of mine there and we'll use them if we have to ...their track is lacking in the creature comforts so it is substandard in that regard, it doesn't have grandstands, it doesn't have good press facilities or anything else. But if we have to do that for one year we will do it. But the next year they will have a brand new race track, and there will be a Superbike race there - they've already applied. Whether we grant it or n ot is so me th in g we will d ecide, but when they build the ir facility they want a Superbike race, which will be in a firstclass place. But the point is, they ma y be substandard as far as creature comforts for a year, but not as far as sa fety goes. And we think that the two races we have to replace, by the time those two races are run in 1995 whether or not it is temporary, we'll have proper press facilities and proper fan comforts. And they m ay not be as good as some of the other venues on the schedule, but the tracks that we are thinking about are all good race tracks as far as racing is concerned. So peo ple need to be a little patient with us. Thi s is not a situation that any of us wanted to (have) happen. It was a disaster si tuation and (could have) virtually destroyed or set back road racing in America. But, in the end, it wasn't a setback at all. On the whole I am ecstatic, absolutely ecstatic, about how this has all turned out. 0 Driving without motorcycle liability insurance is illegal. It's also down-right foolish .
