And judging by the groans in th e stands duri ng the rider intro duction , I wasn't the on ly person wh o felt th at way. Half of th e fun of watching Jeremy ride is watc hi ng hi m make good clea n passes or his competition . I hope he is not plannin g on adding dirty rid ing to his bag of tricks beca use the sp ort has eno ugh take-ou t ar tists as it is. T. Heyl Ash land, OH Thanks Eddie Eddie Mulder and his crew really kn ow how to prepare a track - eve n in desolate deser t conditions. The club's p layday at th e Willo w Sprin gs Dirt Tr ack is th e mo st fun I've had in a long time . And the sw ap meet w as birch en' for those loo king for special d irt track items. I ran an d wo rked like cra zy all day to keep my boy's 250 running and I'd like to thank Jim Holt, Greg Klassen and Rob Ely for their cam ar aderie which is typ ical of dirt track ra ce rs . Eig h t h an d s working on a 250 top- en d rebu ild finished it.so fast that I had to go find my rider, who d idn't exp ect it to ru n th e rest of the da y. Late r on retired Pro Expert #23z, Rob . Ely, took the helm so I'd know if it was built good enough. It was and Rob still has w hat it takes. Hey, boys, en ough whining abou t tracks in Southern Cali fornia - we ha ve one at Willow Springs Inte rn ational Racewa y . Mulder's cre w ge ts it don e professionally and on time . Th anks for a grea t weekend , Eddie . I had a bl a st and I didn 't even r ide a motorcycle. Pau l Cates Bakersfield, CA The yen I enjoyed Scot t Rou s se au ' s colum n (Tapes, Issue #15, April 19). I am always amused when I read ab out the yen / do llar issue in an American m ot o rcycl e pub lication . As yo u know, th e dolla r falls agains t the yen for several reason s. As a country our p eop le spend m ore than we Save, a nd o u r gover ment spe nds more than it takes in. The sho rt- age of invest men t ca pi tal and h igh nation al debt that these create leave the d ollar m uch less att ra ctive to foreign Inves tors . The m ain rea so n the do llar ke eps falling against ot her curre ncies is that we bu y m o r e product f ro m o the r nations than we sell to them . In a sense, our dollar is w orth what it u sed to be beca u se we d on 't build m otorcycl es here (Harley-D avidson notw ithstandin g ). Until Am eric a p roduces some sporting machines tha t we can afford, I don't see the situa tion im proving. On the other hand, Japan co uld suddenly star t b u y in g Harley- Davidsons an d Chevrolets. Well, Japanese like to save, . d on't bu y on credit, and buy products made in their own country . Persona lly, m y next m otorcycle will be a Buell m ad e in the USA . Perh aps we cou ld lea rn a few les sons fro m our Japanese friends . . Don Buxto n Bothell, WA For Love or Money ? Fabulous article by Sco tt Rousseau (For Love or Mo ney? Issu e #13, April 5) in w hich he chronicled the tea m of Davey Ca mlin and engin e builder /tuner Skip Eake n . It's always very dif ficult to ascertain how mu ch it actu ally costs -to campa ig n a bike, and h ow much m oney these extremely talented an d d edicated peop le earn for their efforts. Please consider exp anding th is typ e of a rt icle to d epict ot her fully sponsored teams - 500cc Grand Prix, Superb ike, Supe r cross . Mo to cross , e tc . I think it wou ld be fascina ting to see ex actly ho w much money is required to campaign a fu ll ride and to see the ac tua l brea k down of income an d expenditures. I realize th at it's p roba bly no secret to all the peop le dir ectly inv olved in this segment of the sp or t, but to your cas ua l reader an d mot orcycle en thusiast - it's a totally new wo rld Ross Potoff Tucson, AZ Schwantz correction In the a rticle abou t Fred d ie Sp encer an d th e 1985 Da yt ona 200 (" All Fredd ie", Issu e #8, March 1), it was rep ort ed that Kevin Schwantz rode a Su zuki GSXR750 . In fact h e rode a GS 70 0b ased a ir-coole d Su zuki p repped b y Yoshimura . The GSXR was not avail- able until 1986 . Otherwise, it w as an excellent article. Daryl Downing Water Mill, NY Where's Kocinski? Conspic o us b y h is a b s ence is Jo h n Kocinski. John had an exce llent rid e a t Dayto n a in the 600c c Supersport race and I th ou ght he would make the class a rea l b attle th is year . Is he injured ? Did he land a Grand Prix rid e? What's up ? While on the subject of World Champions, please let the rea ders kno w wha t Ed die Lawson is doing this season . I did no t see his nam e in the results of either the Phoenix or Long Beach Ind y Ligh ts races. Can yo u p lease tell me w ha t his plans are for this seas on? Stephen Kramme Santa Ros a, CA John Kocinski's second-place fi nish at Daytona was a one-off ride for Honda. Although his name continues to come lip in every racing ru mor, the latest one is that he will replace Doug Polen in the Castrol Honda World Superbike team (see In The Wind on page 2). For the moment, however, Kocinski does not have a ride. As for Lawson, apparently the Californian lacked the necessary sponsorship to run another season of Indy Ughts...Editor.
