Georgia' S Adam Humphrey spo iled Bone's sweep by taking the first round of 125cc A. Over 350 riders gathered to christen the Road Atlanta circuit , laid ou t by lon gti me MX racer Sam Thomas, over the infield hills of the road course . In the first round of 125 A action Bone, Adam Humphrey and Matt Shue of Cartersville, Geo rgia, blasted off the line in close company. The knotted trio put on a terrific show, w ith many lead swa ps . Eventua lly, Shue was leading the charge a nd appeared to be pulling away when he sudden ly slowed a nd allowed bo th Humphrey and Bon e to pass. "The a irbox came loose o n my bike," ex p lained Shue. "So I had to back off beca use there was n' t the power 1 nt.-eded, and I didn' t wa nt to suck in any more du st than necessary." Bone an d Humphrey we re using the d ustberms to roost each other in attempts to slow the other' s p rog ress. Humphr ey crossed the finish line first in front of Bone. In the return contes t of 125cc A, Bone was determined to get out front an d sta y there. "I didn't want to eat any more dust," he said flatly. And he didn 't , for the rest of the da y, producing two more holcshots in 250cc A to dominate that class. Shue had gotten his airbox locked d own and ran a stro ng second for runner -u p overall in 12See A, followed by Humphrey, Ch ris top he r Bailey and Robert Mullins. Dark Stiles mirrored Bone's 2SOcc A performance in 250cc B, thr ashing the field of 14 with doubl e aces .
