By Eric Vincent ROS AMOND CA, APR. 15-16 , Kent Kunitsugu rode to victory in a rain-soaked Tom Sera Racing Fonnula Two race during the fou rth ro und of Willow Sp rings Mot o rcycle Clu b racin g at Willow Sp rings Intern at ional Raceway. Ra cers had to contend wi th a wet an d unusually cold day of Ap ril racing at the Southern California facility, but Kun itsugu proved up to the challenge. Steve Tesch ke took the holesho t off the line wit h Kuni tsugu on his tail. Between turns one and two, Rob Fletcher emerged from the pack after sta rting in th e midd le of the g rid and jump ed into the lead . Fletcher then opened up a . slight gap on Kunitsugu an d Teschke, but that ad va nta ge eva pora ted seve ral turns la ter as Kunits ugu powered back up to close the gap . Rounding tum nine to complete the second lap, Kun its ugu moved around th e outside of Fletcher and grabbed the lead. A half a lap later, however, Kunitsugu was pushed back into second wh en Fletcher got pas t him again. For the next seven lap s, Fletcher contin ued to lead but was un der const ant press ure from Kun itsugu. Meanwhile Teschke found himself in a secure third place. On the fina l lap, Ku nitis ugu closed and attempted a pass on the back straight but wasn't able to make the move. Rou nd ing tum nine, Kunitsugu was right on Fletcher's rear tire. On the front straight , heading towards the checkered flag, Kunitsugu powered past Fletcher to steal the race victory. Fletche r finished second 'and Teschke third . In th e Yamaha 650cc Superbi ke GP race, Robb ie Dowie was firs t 011 the line, but Lance Ho lst was just behind him going into the first turn. Emerging in third off the line was David Campbell. As the leaders went d own the back stra ig h t for th e firs t tim e, Holst twist ed the th rottle an d moved past Do wie to take ove r the lead. For the next few lap s, a tight, four ride r-pack co mpeted lor the lead with Tesc hke holding lourt h. As the laps continued to click by, Holst s lo w ly inc reased th e gap an d his ho ld o n the lead . Alt ho ugh Dowie, Ca mpbell and Teschke ma inta in ed a sepa ra tio n of o nly a few bike lengths lor the rest 01 the race, no change in the orde r 01 the top lour took place. At the line, it was Ho lst with the win lollowed by Dowie in second and Campbell in third .
