Aerial show to Reynard at Oklahoma City Motocross By Malcolm Wood OKLAHOMA em,OK. APR I Nation al motocross stars Robb ie Reyn ard and Oiff Palmer along with local pros Dennis and Trey Ow ens put on a spectacular show at Oklahoma City MX, and Reynard went the other riders one better by scoring two class win s on the night. The loamy start str aigh t was to Jack Brassfield' s liking as he grabbed the ho leshot and led shortly. But Brassfield was quickly consumed by the Team Kawasaki /Fox-backed KX of Reynard, and Palm er. Rid ers as well as spect ato rs focused on the pair as they led the field with an awesom e aerial assault on the jump-filled track. Reynard rod e to a mi stake-free win in both th e 125 and 250cc Expert classes via four moto wins, w ith Palmer finis hing second overall in both classes . Resu lts P/W STK: 1. Kendal Owens (Yam); 2. By lap three , Temmerman ha d worked his wa y past Hersh ey and started gainin g on the leader s. As they settled in to th eir respective paces, the moto ended with Jor gen sen taki ng another win. Temmerman, Han delin, Clark and Hers hey finish ed secon d thro ugh fifth . Moto th ree was pretty much a repe at of the second, as the top five fast guys spread out. This time Hersh ey and Clark du ked it out for awhile befor e Clark gave up on lap seven, allowing Hers hey to slip by for four th behin d Handelin, Temmerman and winn er Jorgensen. By the end of the d ay Sat urd ay th e ov erall loo ked lik e a runaw ay for Jorg en sen who wa s in first with three wins. Sunday morning started with moto four, and Steve Mah cado led the wa y with a su rp rise ho le shol. H e would h old onto the lead for almost tw o laps before overju m pin g a sho rt dou ble and crashing. Quick to take advantage of Machado's zealous but disaste rous attempt to ho ld onto the lead was Temmerman who moved into first with Jorgensen and Hershey right on his rear wheel. Jorgensen finally put a move on Temmerman to take over the lead , and the mota ended with Jorgen sen taking the win followed by Temmerm an, Handelin, He rshey and Clark. As the fifth and fina l moto took off it was Hersh ey pulling off a five -seco nd lead ri ght from the drop of the ga te. Closing in fast were Temrn erman, Jorgensen, Machado and Hand elin sli1labout 10 seconds back. Jorgensen wasted no tim e ge tti ng arou nd Tem me rma n on lap two and went afte r Hershey. Rosa pulled away from the pack slightly down the backstretch, while Pearce made short work of Dupree's Honda on the wide, fast groove and set his sights on the leader. (Top) Paul Lynch (19) powers away from MIke McKee (99) and Tom Skethway (4) en route to the 600cc A class win at Trail-Way Speedway. (Above) Rick Pearce powered away from the pack to earn the Open Expert win at the Adelanto Short Track. After several laps looking both inside and outside for a way 10 pa ss Rosa, Pearce settled on an outside line and used his horsepower advantage to pull away from Rosa. Beaumont Yamaha's Rick Reed led the SOOc Pros in the middle of the pack, chased by Gary Davis and Rick Rockhold. Davis was pushing Reed fo r the entire main o n a little 350cc Honda, but it just didn 't have the guts for a pass on the tacky clay. Pearce continued to inch away from Rosa. who had both Dupree and McDaniel on his tail to the flag. Reed held off Davi s by a bike length for the 500cc win with Rockh old in tow . Pearce wa sted. no time in the second race, ju m p ing out ahead of McDaniel, Ro sa and Davi s. McDaniel slipped to th ird as Rosa went by to hammer on Pearce while Davis gave a bit of a demonstration of his job as movie stu nt coordinator, catching McDaniel's rear wheel and doing a triple somers au lt into the tum three haybales. Davis had his bell rung pretty good and was too sketchy 10continue. Pearce led the re start followed by Rosa, McDa niel and Dupree when Rosa slipped out into the turn one marbles, lett ing both riders by and dropping to the back of t he pack. Pea rce left th e others to settle up for ~eco n d as McDa niel was dropped to fourth, passed by both Dupree and a charging Rosa . A s the white flag waved, Rosa tried an inside pass on Dupree only to se e Dupree square the comer and head for the inside, leaving Rosa in a slo w lowside and on the ground. Pearce took the flag · with a half a straightaway cushion, followed by Dupree. McDaniel, Reed and Rockhold. .... - I-< 0... <: 27
