I PRODUCT.EVALUATION I Xtreme X-Lite Pants' hen the box first arrived, I was sure that the guys at Xtreme had made a mistake. "Surely they sent a box full of foam puffs and forgot to include the pants," I thought. Bu t to my surprise, a pair of X-Lite Pan ts was inside. Keeping in step with its competitors, Xtreme has introduced an economy version of their already popular Generation X Pants. At $99.95, the pan ts cost $40 less than their top-of-the line product, and to tell you the truth, I ca n't see why. My experiences wi th other companies' eco n o m y pa nts h ave .been less than favo rable. More often than not, their seams explode, the gra phics fade, and they're just plain cheesy looking. Not so with the X-lite Pants. Because Xtreme's clothing designs are clean and simple to start with, only an "Xtremely" welltrained eye can spot the differences between the Xlite and Generation X pants - there 's little variation between the two models. The X-lites feature the same lineriess 420 Denier Antron Nylon construction as the Generation X pants, and are designed to be worn in conjunction with Xtreme's XSlid er shorts, or any Iycra stretch shorts, for that matter. A two-way stretch inseam panel runs completely around the inseam from the knees, and like they claim, this feature provides an incredible amount of flexibility . The victim of anterior cruciate ligament knee surgery, I wear not one, but two 2 knee braces. For me, one of the toughest things abo u t rid ing is finding a pair of pants that not only fit well, but are easy to pull on over my braces. The X-lite pants meet both requiremen ts. Thanks to their baggy cut and stretch-panel inseam, the pants are amongst the most comfortable I've ever worn . In addition, their lightweight linerless construction is a huge bonus when the weather ge ts a li t tle warm. Riders who wear knee braces can relate - not only d o you have to wear the braces, but the full-coverage knee-brace socks as well. Tha t, combined with the 1iners inside your leath ers can equal a pair of extre mely overheated legs. In all honesty, I cut th e liners out of all of my other -leathers. In the seat area, the X-pand two-directiona! stretch back panel keeps things comfortable, stretching with each movemen t you make. Up front, Xtreme's exclusive no-zipper front closure makes it easy to get the pants to fit just right. My only complaint with Xtreme's first-generation leathers was that they were on the hot side because of the thick, rubbery, large Xtreme logos that adorned each leg. That, however, is a problem of the past as the new-style Xtreme logo is smaller, thinner and more flexible. Here at Cycle Neun, my fellow editors often badger me by referring to me as the "Style King" - mostly because I find it unacceptable to wear mismatched, stained or outdated riding gear while test-riding. I can just hear them now, teasing me about showing up at the track in a pair of "econo" pants. "What's the deal with the cheap stuff?" they'll ask. And I'll tell them: Xtreme's new. X-lite pants are the coolest, m os t comfortable leath ers I have ever wo rn. For more information contact Xtre me, Dept.
