With Moore's dem ise, anot her Okla ho man - Bryan Byrd - was left to chase afte r Peters. Thou gh he secured second place, he could do little to match Peters' grace between the ta pes. Peters ended the day with a mere 25 poi nts, 55 less than Byrd 's 80-poi nt total. Mark Robin wasthird with 88. On Sunday, Moore returned rested, re fr eshed and read y to go. While Moore and the rest struggled to find traction , Pete rs seemed to ride better as the day wore on. In his final three loops, Peters dropped on ly five points, bringing his four-loop total to 15. Moore ended up with 42, while Byrd nabbed third with 75. "I live near Watkins Glen, so I get to practice in slippery conditions all the time," said Peters. "The wetter, the better." " Ray' s ha rd to beat when it's muddy," said Moore. " If it hadn't rained , things might have been different." c:x Oklahoma's MattMoore nabbed second on Sunday, but DNFedon Saturday . Lap after lap, Breckon charged hard and low in the turns as Wills held his own' up high. Going into tum one on the last lap, Breckon made a last-ditch banzai move to the inside of Wills. Just as it appeared the lead would change, Breckon's front wheel hooked a rut and he lost his grip on the bars. As Breckon tumbled to the Georgia clay, Wills cruised to his second win of the day. HOUSTON, IX, MAR 25-26 ay mond Pete rs su rp rised a lot of Te xans when he showed up fo r rounds seven and eigh t of the Texas Stat e Championship Series, bu t it wa s no surprise when he trounced the Master class with a pair of spectacular per formances, scoring the win with over 50 points to spare on Saturday, and nearl y 30 on Sunday. The Houston Area Trials Team laid out a challenging eight section loop that routed riders through the Corp of Engineers property at Somerville Lake, just north of Houston. Dirt banks and numerous trees challenged the riders, and a rain shower made things especially interesting on Sun day afternoon. A residen t of upstate New York, Peters flew into Houston and competed aboard a Fantic Section provided by event promoter Gary Jackson. Peters lists his sponsors as Fantic Motor, The Tryals Shop, Cycle Service Center, Axo and Shoei. On Saturday, Peters took control right from the get-go. He had expected R Sunday NOV: 1.
