When the gate dropped for the start of the comb ined 125cc Intermediate /Pro race, the Orange County Suzukis of Don Upt on and EricSchneU led the way. Behind the leaders, a four-way battle erupted between pro rid ers Marlo Painter, E.] . Wright, Heath Voss and Intermediate rider Jeny Aleman. As the race progressed, Upt on pulled away while Schnell slowed. "I have not been training to ride long motos like this," Schnell said . "The am ateur Nationals that I ha ve been racin g are much sho rter ." Pain ter was the first to pick off Schnell. Then two laps later the 14-year -old Aleman threaded his way through the Pros and took the Intermediat e class lead from Schnell. At the finish line, Upton and Painter finished 1-2 follo we d by Int erm ed iat e winne r Alema n an d Schnell in third an d fourth. Pro rid er E.J. Wrigh t com pleted the top five. The seco nd mot o saw Upton again in control with Schnell second and challengi ng for the lead . Schnell made a mistake just after the third lap by falling over in a techn ical sectio n of the track. Schnell rem ou n ted in sixth jus t behind Aleman,. who led the Intermed iate class. At this point the Pros took over the top four spots on the track, but the real action took place betw een Aleman and Schnell as the two future Pros duked it out for the rest of the race. In the en d , Sch nell scooted ar ound Al em an for the moto and overall win in the Interm ed iate class while Upton topped Painter and Voss in the Pro class. Results so (4-6) STK: 1.
