When asked abo ut the race Summers said, "I had a good ride and the course was excellent. Ope n A class win ne r, Ha rvey Whitaker , on his XR600 Honda, go t off to a slow start as he too k a cou ple so il samp les early on as Wad e Perry, on h is CRSOO, sprin ted away. Whitaker regained his com pos ure and passed Perry on lap three an d con tinued in first to the finish . Former Nat ion al H are Scramble Ch ampion Ton y Hen do n re tu rn ed to action on his Suzuki in the Vet A class. After being sidelined from an unfortunate -accid ent in round six of the series, Hen do n left little doubt he was up to the task of winning again. Scott Martin, on a Kawasaki, an d Hen do n swapped the lead back and forth until Martin slid ou t and gave Hend on some breath ing room. He then held on to the finish. Carter finds Hidden Acres wins By Barbara Williams KINGSPORT, TN MAR 19 , Kaw asaki -mounted 1.R. Carter showed his stuff at the new and improved Hid de n Acres course at rou nd two of the Tri-Sta te Series by taki ng wins in both Sr. Min i and Unl imited Mini classes. Ca rter be tte red a pair of ho-hum first motos (second and third ) with two blisterin g seco nd moto charges to lead the packs to the checkered flags. Nea rly 200 riders en joyed abso lutely perlect ra ce cond itio ns - 70-deg ree su ns hi ne with a slight breeze - in marked contrast to the Hid den Acres opener two weeks earlier. Torren tial rains ha d made a sli my swamp of th e ci rcuit, an d when the rain stop ped, the deep ru ts hard ened to near -concrete. "We had to cut ou t a coup le sections of the track because they were just too rough to work out befor e ra ce d ay," re marked Joe WiHia ms, ne w ow ne r of Hi d den Acr es . Indeed. th e re routed sections closely resembled the landscape of the Da kota Badl and s, but Wi llia ms h ad groomed the grea ter part of the track to perfection . In the first roun d of motos in the Senior Mini and Unlimi ted Mini classes, Hans Nee l piloted his new Kawasaki to double wins, mu ch to the delight of his da d, Reggie. Neel had stiff competition by Daniel Tesh. Carter took some time to , develop his rhy thm. taking the measu re of Neel and Tesh, and virtually ignoring the rest of the field. Nee l, Carter and Tesh finished out the top th ree in th e Se nio r Mini class, w h ile in t he Unlim ited class, Tesh and Carter swa pped positions . Neithe r Tesh nor Nee l was will ing to sit back and -let 1.R. have the front, tho ug h, and both motos were filled w ith lead -swap s. Carter holesh ot the seco nd Senio r mot o but late in the first lap he slid out in the next-to-last comer. Tesh stepped up and assumed the lead, with Neel close at h and. Cart er re co ve re d in third and kicked in the afte rbu rner to regain his , position. Making up gro und steadily on the lead pair, 1·R. got a gift when Daniel went down. That put Han s in the lead , wi th ).R. brea thing down his neck. Tesh rem ounted in third , as Carter had ea rlier, and qu ickly closed the ga p bet ween them .
