for a lap. Hess took the lead awa y from David
Culpepper on lap tw o while Ni els en took an
extra lap to tuck in behind him.
The two rode wh eel to wheel for the final
four laps. Nielsen did pass Hes s and lead lap
five, but He ss reclaimed the lead as Ni els en
swung too wide in a field. Hess held on to daim
the win by inches o ver Neilsen. Two minutes
back. Gamer had worked his way back up , pass ing Culpepper for third under the white flag.
Leroy 5chmidlkofer smoked the Open Ama-

teurs by six minu tes on his CR500. The very
rough and technical track was to 5chmidlkofer's
liking as he captured the Overall Amateur honors.
Bryan Cook and Sean Reddish were blazing
in the 250cc Expert ranks. The two riders pulled
away from the pack and had their own battle.
Cook held a slight advantage over. the entire SOmile race, and was the Ove ra ll Exper t win ne r.
Reddish w as the runner-up. The two riders pu t
th ree minu tes bet ween the mse lves and th ird placed Brent Nalley.
