MAR. 12 The Texas Championship Hare Scramble Series returned to th e Ft . Hood Arm y Base near Killeen, Texas, wh ere the course is ext remely rocky and mountainous. But nothing could slow Bert Reynolds down . Reyn olds was on a roll as he even gave the AA riders fit en route to the Open A class win. The a fternoon main events featured a hotl y contested AA class with series points leader Jell Wilson taking home the lion ' s s h a re of the purse. Jimm y Dunn and Steve Cardwell made the ea rly charge but tire trouble put Dunn to the rear. Series number-on e plate holder Cfifford Goertz was not a factor afte r suffering from shock ailments. Wilson and Cardwell battled back and lorth lor the lead with Cardwell throwing it all away late on the whi te flag lap. The shi ning star 01 the show was Reynolds who ree led in the entire AA class. Mike Brad shaw wa s Reynolds' bigges t concern, but after tu rn ing on the alt er-bu rners, the final sweep left Brad shaw in the same bew ilderment as the AA guys. . For onl y the second time during the season, the support race ove rall was won by a "C" rider lro m the sma ll-bore class. Cra ig Chedsey battled Jonathan Buckley, wh o worked to recover the lead in the lina l 100 feet but got crossed up in a rut, taking himsell and Chedsey do wn . Chedsey was able to recover and cont inue, while a dazed Buckley wa s held up lor a check up by med ical I~ personnel.
