FEB.26 The 15th annual pr e-Dayt on a Half Mile ra ce, pr om ot ed by Bob and Velm a Bagw ell a t the Devils Bowl Spee d way, was ru n under cloud y skies and occas ional rain, bu t that d id n' t stop the spectators or rid ers from turning out for a great day of racing. In the first heat race, Willi e McCoy. from Richardson. Texas. and ballas' Greg Teagu e had a heated battle going on for much of the race, with McCoy finally putting his Harley in front of Teague, who placed second. The second heat race blasted off to a great start with Ho nda-mounted Terry Poovey, Charlie Orr, aod Wichita 's Kris Armentro ut all battling for first place. Poovey pulled it ou t for the win as Armentrout and Orr rounded out the top three. When the checkered flag waved , Poovey wa s in front, car d ing the win an d the cash, followed by McCoy in second. Armen trout came home third, followed by Orr and Teaqu e in fou rth and fifth, respecti vely. Poov ey got the holesho t in the main , and , not un like the Dash for Cash, led from wi re to wire. In another crowd pleaser, Tony Neill head ed Ran dy Philippe for the 600cc Pro class win after the pair got by early leader j im Ferrington, who ha d the event in han d from the start but manged to stall the bike in the secon d turn on the 10th lap, p u tt ing hi s effo rt to waste. 1994 Class champ Mark Robinso n motored to third, thwarting the challenge of MX Triu mph -mou nted Gary Brennan. Bill Walker topped Bill Snyd er to take 250cc Ama teu r hono rs in a hotly contested race. Snyder would later take 600cc Amateu r honors on ano ther Bultaco, heading a tigh t race between j.e. Clar k an d Mike Zb roze k. Tan g ling with another rider, Clark wa s forced to slow, allcw- . ing Zbro zek an d Frank Guin n to get by. Clar k managed to repass Guinn to cap ture third. . Boutwell, Vitale blister Milton Motocross By Mike Will iams MILTON, FL, FEB. 18 Six-yea r-o ld Co le Boutwe ll tu rn ed a pair of holeshots in to a pair of dominating moto wins and the overa ll victory in the Pee Wee B class at Milton Motocross Park. Inthe first moto of Pee Wee action, Boutwe ll shot his House of Yamaha-b acked PW 50 into the lead and began to steadily pull away from the p ack . Meanw hile, the racin g be h ind Bou twe ll wa s fast and fu rious . Jared McLane was moving h is KTM 50 throu gh the pack at a blistering rate after stalling on the ope ning lap. Corey Carlson , forme r Arkansas State Cham pion, p ut a pro-style pass on Zac Cru rn, stu ffing his way into third place. Mcl.ene was Carlso n's next victim, but after passing McLane, Carlson handed seco nd pl ace back w he n he fell in a sandy comer that was giving all the riders a fit.
